AECOM Geotechnical Engineer in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Yellowknife office. This is an opportunity to work with AECOM’s world-class engineers and scientists on civil and geotechnical engineering projects in the arctic regions and to support AECOM’s ongoing projects at the Giant Mine Remediation Project. You will be involved from the initial site investigations, conceptual designs to construction supervision, monitoring and reporting. This opportunity will also include working on challenging projects that includes working with AECOM’s water, transportation and remediation business lines.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Plan, direct, and supervise all operations related to geotechnical investigations
Developing sound technical solutions to assist in the design and evaluation of geotechnical applications
Preparing technical letters, memorandums and reports and collaborate with senior staff on proposal development
Communicating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors and sub-consultants
Collecting and analyzing geotechnical field data and laboratory testing results
Preparing geotechnical evaluation reports and recommendations
Participating in design of civil earthwork structures and development of tendering and construction specifications

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with a preference for a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
4+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical and/ or geological engineering
Professional Engineering License required in the NWT
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Travel will be required in this position within Canada’s northern territories (candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments possibly lasting up to three to four weeks at a time)
May be required to lift heavy objects, such as a nuclear densometer
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant arctic engineering and permafrost engineering experience
Experience in foundation engineering in arctic regions
Experience with engineering design software (i.e., LPILE, Geostudios, Roc Science, Plaxis) will be an advantage
Experience or aptitude for proposal writing, client development, working in a team setting to meet timelines and other skills appropriate to consulting
Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Strong all-round academic knowledge of geotechnical and/or geological engineering
Experience in geotechnical reconnaissance and site characterization is essential
Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical investigations and in writing reports and technical communications
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
