AECOM Electrical Engineering Manager in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Job Summary

The Winnipeg office of the AECOM Buildings + Places business line currently has a management opportunity within the Electrical Engineering discipline. We are seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Manager that will compliment the existing leadership team in securing, managing and delivering high quality project work in the local and broader marketplace. The role requires a suitable blend and balance of technical and non-technical responsibilities including staff management, technical leadership, business development and project management.

In this position, you will play a key role in the overall success of our organization by planning, managing, and monitoring engineering functions within the Electrical Team. You will possess strong leadership skills and participate in the effective delivery of all phases of a project from preliminary engineering through to project completion and turn over. A solid understanding of project budget performance and management, project schedule, quality control and technical excellence is mandatory. Our Winnipeg office has a strong history of successful delivery of commercial, industrial, government (municipal

through Federal), and water/wastewater projects. Experience in a variety of similar type projects would be a definite asset.

Duties include:

  • Prepare creative, functional and innovative designs.

  • Maintain, develop and coordinate all aspects of the Electrical Team.

  • An energetic and enthusiastic coach with an ability to recognize and develop talent.

  • Promote and formalize mentoring relationships through the engagement of less experienced staff.

  • Prepare design and contract documents, document checking, construction reviews and contract administration.

  • Ensure that deliverables (reports, drawings, specifications, calculations) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practice.

  • Manage financial and cost control aspects of the Electrical Team.

  • Effective verbal and written communication with clients and internal team members.

  • Effectively manage projects to complete deliverables on time/on budget while maintaining quality and meeting client expectations.

  • Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Architects, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of project documents in accordance with AECOM’s Quality Management System.

  • Lead compliance with corporate safety goals and initiatives.

  • Develop, manage and grow the Electrical Team through internal end external business development.

  • Support cross-selling initiatives and proposal development between AECOM Business Lines and Geographies.

  • Write and coordinate winning proposals to attract new clients and retain current clients.

  • Identify and promote growth in key strategic markets and with key strategic clients.

  • Contribute to the preparation, execution and delivery of AECOM business plans.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • At a very minimum to be considered: 8 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering including experience as a Discipline Lead.

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with EGM or eligible for immediate registration.

  • A well-rounded background in project design and delivery.

  • Background in building electrical design (power distribution, lighting and fire alarms).

  • Working knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and national building codes.

  • Knowledge of design software such as: Lighting Design Simulation (Visual), Load Flow Simulation, Power Pole Simulation or Grounding Simulation (ETAP or SKM).

  • Project management experience.

  • Detail oriented, well organized and effectively manages time.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills to develop lasting internal and external client partnerships and maximize employee engagement.

  • Experience with corporate administrative and reporting requirements (finances, quality management, health and safety).

  • An ability to collaborate with local and national AECOM groups to develop and execute strategic and operational plans.

  • Ability to travel to other cities as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in consulting engineering with several years of experience as a Discipline Lead preferred.

  • Knowledge of NEC interpretation pertaining to 480V and lower voltage design.

  • Experience and success with Design Build and/or P3 projects.

  • Experience with LEED sustainable designs.
