AECOM Electrical Designer-Drafter in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Job Summary

AECOM is searching for an Electrical Designer/drafter for position based in Winnipeg, MB. The appropriately qualified candidate will have a successful track record in the conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases of light industrial and municipal infrastructure (pump stations, water / wastewater treatment plants). You will work in a team environment with intermediate and senior engineers to deliver advanced wastewater treatment and large pumping station projects to our client base.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide design, production and documentation developments for electrical power and distribution systems, lighting, fire alarm systems etc.

  • Design and produce drawings and specifications for instrumentation and control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment and industrial applications.

  • Develop electrical and instrumentation drawings for water infrastructure projects using AutoCAD, REVIT and BIM

  • Strictly adhere to AECOM's project CADD standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements upon request

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and the clients' standards

  • Take direction from Engineers and Project Leads

  • Ensure that project deliverables are produced in a timely manner to expected quality and allocated budget

  • Efficiently and effectively handles multiple tasks independently

Minimum Requirements

  • 2+ years engineering CAD design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for commercial and/or industrial design

  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD and other design tools (such as AutoCAD 3D or Electrical, REVIT MEP Plant products)

  • Experience in design and production of tender documents such as single line diagrams, control and communication system diagrams, electrical hazardous area & grounding drawings, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, instrumentation indices & standard details

  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and experience in 120/208VAC, 600VAC, low voltage and communication systems

  • Valid MB Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Experience with Microsoft office suite of programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Electrical I&C Engineering and CAD Drafting, or equivalent, from a recognized/accredited institution

  • A.Sc.T. designation preferred

  • Advanced AutoCAD skills. Skills in MicroStation, or AutoCAD 3D will be an asset

  • Previous work with 3D design tools (REVIT or AutoCad3D preferred)

  • Experience on designs of low and medium voltages distribution, standby generation, transformers, MCC and starters will be an asset

  • Experience in field work, close work with contractors for project delivery will be considered an asset

  • Must be able to interpret engineers' notes & specifications, and convert into detailed design drawings accurately in timely manner with minimum amount of supervision

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment

  • Critical thinking to identify issues, present solutions and follow through to ensure completion

  • Capable of collaborating and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
