Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer t o join our growing Buildings + Places team. The Buildings + Places team is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers architectural, engineering and project management services for construction projects. Project assignments typically include maintenance/transit, municipal, and federal facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

A key member of the mechanical design team, the Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Provide conceptual design at the early stages of the project including the preparation of conceptual design reports;

  • Iteratively progress the detailed design to a high-quality deliverable while coordinating with all relevant disciplines;

  • Design HVAC, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems;

  • Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs (i.e. Carrier HAP);

  • Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations;

  • Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards;

  • Working knowledge of the LEED rating system, or other green rating systems

  • Write / edit mechanical specifications;

  • Occasional travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports.

  • Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical audience.

  • Comply with AECOM’s quality management system and perform Lead Verifier quality checks of assigned projects.

  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Participate in mentoring of junior engineers and designers on the team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have at least a University degree in Mechanical Engineering + (four) 4 + years of relevant experience (or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education) to be considered for this position.

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 5 + years of experience in the Buildings Engineering Industry, local experience with local/Canadian clients a strong asset.

  • Strong Consulting Industry background in Canada.

  • Experience with P3 / design build model of project delivery an asset.

  • Experience with Integrated Project Delivery methods an asset.

  • Experience in large federal, municipal, or transit projects preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC and Hydronic Systems.

  • Experience with renewable/green plumbing systems an asset.

  • Experience with compressed air, fuel, and other service fluid piping systems an asset.

  • Design knowledge of large-scale boiler/ chiller plants and distribution networks, district heating/ cooling, and co-generation systems an asset.

  • Experience in Revit and Navisworks an asset.

  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

  • Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills (essential).

  • Security Clearance: PWGSC/PSPC - Level II Secret Clearance preferred for Federal Project.
