Job Description

Our Civil Infrastructure team in Wellington is growing and we are looking for a new Technical Director to help lead our team, provide technical expertise through all phases of delivery, and continue to deliver exceptional outcomes for some of the biggest Infrastructure clients in ANZ.

As part of this role, you will also have a unique opportunity to apply your skills as a member of our River link Project team, to deliver transformative outcomes for the Hutt Valley.

To be successful in the role you will utilise your considerable technical and industry experience to provide civil and transportation design engineering input to project teams, developing safe project solutions, and supervising construction activities.

You will provide leadership to professional and technical staff on a range of projects that deliver high standard outcomes for AECOM clients. You will also be involved in regular client liaison, business development and winning work.

As a Technical Director you will:

  • Possess and demonstrate solid functional and/or technical knowledge, skills and abilities specific to role/level and apply them effectively.

  • Develop, maintain and retain the highest standard of professional and technical skills.

  • Keep abreast of current industry issues and best practice to enable continual alignment and improvement.

  • Act as a technical expert in the related discipline field to develop and share knowledge with other employees and build the teams level of expertise.

  • Actively network with key ANZ experts to work collaboratively to develop and introduce new ideas and innovations to deliver projects.

  • Be an active member of relevant technical society.

  • Use skills and strategies to successfully influence high impact, high risk and complex situations.

  • Consistent winning and/or delivery of projects or business results, across a range of people, clients and excellence indicators, with a proven ability to deliver complex projects.

  • Be an attentive and active listener who commands attention and can manage group process during presentations.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Appropriate technical qualification

  • 20 years of relevant experience

  • Successful track record in field of expertise and substantial project experience

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and meeting delivery requirements

  • Leadership skills including technical leadership, human relations, team building, innovation, and motivation skills

  • Experience in successfully leading project teams

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • The ability to be an attentive and active listener who commands attention and can manage group process during presentations

  • The ability to communicate at all levels

  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen, and the ability to develop a strong client base

  • Proven results in building a team’s level of expertise

  • Solid business development skills and the ability to build strong client relationships

  • Experience in successfully leading project teams

  • Diligent and able to work consistently to deadlines under tight time frames

  • High-level problem-solving skills and judgement capability

  • Able to maintain confidentiality

  • Client focused (both internal and external clients)

  • A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven team environment

  • Train or mentor other staff
