Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Americas Tunnel Practice Leader for immediate employment with flexible locations in North America. The right candidate can be located anywhere in the US or Canada. The role would require 20% to 50% travel to project sites as needed.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the tunnel engineering industry and have a successful track record of major tunneling design, construction management and program management with both transportation and water projects. The applicant will have extensive experience in marketing, developing, designing and managing tunnel projects, with emphasis in managing complex underground projects for transportation and water initiatives. The position will report to the Transportation and Water Global Business Lines leadership and will work in a matrix organization, with local operations staff, regional leadership, and global transportation and water business line executives to assist in winning and delivering new AECOM work with major tunneling components globally.
The Americas Tunnel Practice Leader is responsible for business development and project delivery of tunnel projects located around the Americas, and collaborating with other Global Region tunnel practice leaders. Position requires candidate to be an industry leader recognized by key tunnel contractors and owners. The position will provide strategic plan development, leadership on major pursuits, and technical oversight of critical projects for both owner and contractor clients.
As the America’s Tunnel Practice Leader you will have a reporting structure to both the Transportation and Water Global Business Line Executives. In addition, the Regional Tunnel Practice Leaders in Canada, West and East Regions would have a dotted line reporting structure to you. The Region practice leaders will have coordination responsibility for the tunnel pursuit pipeline, projects and staff in both the Transportation and Water business lines, as well as direct project execution obligations. The intent is for the tunnel practice is to work within the existing America’s Region and Business Line structure.
In your role as the America’s Tunnel Practice Leader your primary responsibilities would include the following:
Tunnel project opportunity pipeline awareness and input. Our project opportunity pipeline is managed by the regions/business lines, and the tunnel opportunities would be identified to plan tunnel specialized staff needs to pursue and execute this work. Lead strategy for many of our key tunnel pursuits.
The KPIs for this role would include tunnel project bookings, executed NSR, gross margin and quality control across the Americas.
Technical resource and standards assessment. Review tunnel technical resources in the Americas and identify gaps.
Identify opportunities for global cross-region participation to be more effective in winning and executing tunnel projects.
Hold regular coordination meetings with Regional Tunnel Practice leads and Transportation/Water Region Business Line Leaders.
Help attract tunneling talent to Americas, with Region and GBL concurrence.
Assist the Region Practice Leaders with prioritization of conference attendance, technical papers, and participation in tunnel industry organizations
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor's degree plus extensive relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, and at least 6 years of leadership experience.
20+ years progressive experience in design, construction and project management of tunnel structures
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), or the ability to obtain
Ability to manage and collaborate across geographically disbursed teams
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Valid Driver’s License required
Demonstrated experience in the design of tunnel excavation and support systems for transportation and water projects
Comprehensive knowledge of trenchless technology and tunneling methods
Understanding of geotechnical condition assessment and documentation for ground tunneling
Preferred Qualifications :
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
Actively engaged with the tunnel design and construction professional community
Proven track record with large client program management, pursuit execution, and multidisciplinary team management
Experience in client prepositioning activities, team (internal and external partners) and proposal development
Background in Design-Build or Public-Private Partnership delivery methods on major tunneling projects, including funding options and negotiations for end-client
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
