The Reliability Consultant Engineer is required to provide advice and support at all levels on the safety aspects of design, maintainability and product quality so that systems comply with the relevant client and code requirements established in the input documentation and specifications.

Co-ordinates ARM and all associated reliability activities on allocated programs or projects. Provides advice to Business and customers on reliability and safety. Influence product designs by providing safety design advice to others so that product and systems designs are compliant.

Have a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of generic plant and equipment associated with production facilities and the safety lifecycle defined in IEC 61511 (2nd Edition).

Be conversant with SIL determination to set SIL targets using approaches such as LOPA and Fault Tree Analysis and be capable of chairing workshops for HAZOP and SIL.

Responsibilities include:

  • Function Specifications.

  • Compiling and checking design substantiation.

  • Lease with the safety case team and discuss engineering responses and reasoning

  • Be able to perform SIL verification.

  • Have a track record of performing staged functional safety assessments in accordance with the requirements of IEC 61508 and 61511 (Edition 2).

  • Have knowledge of the design and development of safety related logic solvers is desirable.

  • No financial responsibility.

  • No direct reports.

  • Will discuss Safety and Reliability issues directly with Customers on allocated programs.

Minimum Requirements

This position is ideally suited high level professionals with many years of reliability knowledge and plant experience who can demonstrate the following:

  • Provide ARM leadership to allocated programs or projects.

  • Supports Business Development team on ARM related matters in bid proposals.

  • Provides advice and guidance on the safety, reliability, maintainability and testability aspects of the design of products at equipment as well as systems level.

  • Delegates or produces the ARM deliverables (i.e. documentation and analyses) for allocated programs, working closely with the relevant Lead Engineers to achieve the customer milestones for each allocated project.

  • Leads on the performance of the various analyses such as the Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Predictions, Common Mode Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, etc.

  • Delegates or produces the ARM documentation on each allocated program (FMEA, MTBF Predictions, Failure Analysis, etc.)

  • Discusses Safety and Reliability issues with Customers on the allocated programs.

  • Performs Risk Assessments as required by the Business for potential safety issues.

  • Provide relevant safety advice to others to enable product designs to be requirements compliant

  • Deliver the Safety and Reliability documentation and perform relevant analyses to meet customer's schedule and requirements.

  • Working independently to deliver Work Packages for both ARM and Systems liaising with Project Managers and Design Engineers as necessary.

  • Thorough understanding of the safety process and related analyses.

  • Good understanding of the Systems Engineering processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Systems or other appropriate professional qualification with significant working experience within the Oil & Gas, Utilities or Energy industry working in a Functional Safety role.
