Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Area Safety, Health and Environment Manager for immediate employment. The location of this position is flexible to offices in the Midwest. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Provide visible and active leadership throughout the area for safety

  • Develop, monitor and assess safety programs at diverse work sites (civil construction, building construction, environmental remediation and construction, industrial construction)

  • Identify specific, actionable and feasible solutions to complex safety, health and environmental issues

  • Mange and validate the effectiveness of corrective actions

  • Develop site and project specific safety plans, training programs, audit protocols, and supporting safety programs (rewards and recognition, security plans etc)

  • Analyze and interpret safety and health data and make recommendations to leadership on response actions (safety metrics, air sampling etc)

  • Recommend changes to policies and procedures that affect the Area's operations and employees

  • Train and coach all levels of employees in the organizations

  • Interface with clients, regulators and external parties to resolve safety concerns

  • Assist operational group in meeting safety performance targets

  • Must be able to achieve compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations of diverse work sites and office settings, while pushing projects and offices towards safety excellence

  • Requires a high level of professionalism, strong skills in relationship building, and well formed leadership style

  • Experience diffusing escalating situations, managing change, and remaining objective in the face a varying opinions, accounts and influences

  • Must be able to motivate others, build teams and maintain forward thinking approach

  • Ability to successfully influence and inspire

  • Able to perform in a fast paced, highly dynamic work environment, prioritize appropriately, and be highly responsive

  • Able to relate to and perform well in front of field technicians, engineers, scientists, senior managers and executives

  • Able to work cross functionally in operations, and partner with other internal stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • 5+ years of safety or project management related experience

  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge in Federal OSHA, USEPA, DOT, Radiation Safety or NFPA 70e

  • Strong background in construction safety, US Army Corps of Engineers EM-385 or major oil and gas safety programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other nationally recognized certification or eligible to take exam within 6 months of hire.

  • Experience preferable in the transportation, energy/power or civil/heavy construction projects

  • Owner / contractor controlled insurance programs

  • 10 years' experience preferred

  • Previous AECOM or legacy company experience preferred

Additional Information:

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

  • Ability to travel 50% or more of the time

  • Per diem support and relocation are not available for this position.

  • Must be able to drive a vehicle and have a clear MVR

  • Must have a valid Drivers License.
