AECOM Water Resources Management Specialist in Virginia, Virginia

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Water Resources Engineer/Planner for our Arlington, Virginia office. In this role, the successful candidate will provide project support for stormwater compliance and planning projects related to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. The candidate will receive mentoring and opportunity for advancement. The ideal candidate will have experience with municipal and industrial stormwater programs and knowledge of Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits, stormwater inspections and monitoring, and TMDL implementation plans. Experience with GIS mapping, industrial facility stormwater permitting, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) development is also a plus. The candidate will work collaboratively with and under the supervision of a senior engineer or project manager and will be responsible for coordination and completion of various stormwater program elements required under regional MS4 Permits, Industrial Stormwater Discharge Permits, and the EPA Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP). Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of stormwater checklists, reports, assessments, public education/outreach materials, etc.

  • Provide technical support in the areas of environmental and stormwater management research, field work, stormwater analysis, and stormwater monitoring

  • Evaluate stormwater program and project costs

  • Perform field investigations and GIS data processing to support stormwater program implementation, stormwater site assessments, and pollutant reduction plans

  • Attend client meetings and prepare meeting minutes

  • Coordinate with AECOM project team members (and subcontractors when used);

  • Participate in local and regional water resources organizations, as appropriate on behalf of AECOM

  • Occasional travel outside of local area may be required

  • Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

  • Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.

  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

  • Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.

  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field

  • 4+ years related experience

  • US Citizen able to work on federal facilities

  • Experience preparing technical reports and memos. Must be a competent technical writer.

  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and technical report writing

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the capacity of a team leader and/or task manager

  • Experience using ArcGIS

  • Experience developing strategies and planning documents related to stormwater management

  • Stormwater monitoring and assessment experience

  • NPDES/TMDL/Water Quality experience

  • Watershed management experience

  • Experience with task management and/or project management

  • MS 4 Compliance Experience

  • Ability to interact appropriately with regulatory personnel and clients for routine tasks

  • Federal Government experience.

  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

  • Ability to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.

  • Attention to detail in work; high quality and accuracy in work performed

  • Some local travel will be required (Virginia, Maryland, and DC)
