AECOM Fire Protection Engineering II in Virginia, Virginia

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office.

The Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for the following items:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered

  • Identifies discrepancies in results

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision

  • Prepare basic deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, design drawings, specifications, cost estimates related to fire protection engineering

  • Review applicable codes and criteria and examine field conditions as required to support the development and completion of projects

  • Assist lead engineer in project design or site survey tasks as required

  • Provide egress and fire modeling assistance using FDDS or other software

  • Willingness to take assignments and research applicable NFPA codes and standards

  • Assist lead fire protection engineer with development of fire protection design and code analysis sheet

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS plus two (2) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered engineer-in-training (EIT) is preferred

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Microstation

  • Master’s degree in fire protection engineering or related field.
