AECOM Principal Facade Engineer - Buildings in Victoria, Australia

Job Summary

AECOM’s Building Engineering group is looking for a proven and highly driven professional to join our specialist Façade’s Team based in Melbourne. As a valued member of our team you will provide technical engineering design input to contribute to a variety of projects and a diverse range of major markets including; Aviation, Commercial and Education projects.

The Role

Our Building Engineering group is looking for a Principal Facades Engineer to contribute and lead a range of complex technical design tasks on medium to large scale projects across Victoria and globally.

As an experienced consultant, you will have proficiency in the design, documentation and understanding of performance requirements of various facades systems. Your strong understanding of Engineering and Façade principles will enable you to proactively look for opportunities and add value to our business, while working closely with clients from around the world.

As a Principal Façade Engineer, you will be working with a leading design practice in our Melbourne centre of excellence, you will have access to industry specialists based across the world, working on a diverse range of industry sectors especially major projects in Aviation, Commercial and Education.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work with a variety of internal and external clients supporting your development and technical skills in an exciting consultancy role, providing input to major projects throughout Australia and New Zealand, USA and South East Asia.

Minimum Requirements

  • Proven understanding of Australian standards within a specialist Facades related role;

  • Strong evidence of working in a similar Facade role, within a consulting environment or contractor side;

  • Excellent confidence in technical understanding of façade systems and performance specifications;

  • Confidence in design software and proven capability in Revit;

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to perform Structural Engineering design and conduct design and modelling analysis;

  • Client-centric approach;

  • Work-alone initiative and ability to deliver design solutions to façade projects while working in multi-disciplinary project teams.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Structures) or similar

  • Proven experience in facade engineering within a facade consultancy or facade contractor environment

  • Proven capability in the use of AutCAD, Strand7 and SpaceGASS

  • Familiar with proprietary supplier software

  • Local experience working within the Australian market-(International experience is a bonus)

  • Must be experienced in facade system design and review of drawing submissions

  • Familiar with relevant local codes and standards related to facades

  • Experience in producing and reviewing calculations for various facade elements and writing documentation at the different stages of a project

  • Experience in successfully leading teams on complex projects

  • The ability to liaise with clients of varying backgrounds

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to deal with both internal and external customers (including international clients)

  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills

  • Proactive, demonstrate initiative, focus, and a strong commitment to your profession

  • Ability to provide estimates for engineering budgets and schedules in order to meet requirements on large projects, with multidisciplinary aspects.

  • Clear and precise communication skills, with an ability to present complex technical solutions to a variety of stakeholders and clients

  • Familiar with parametric design and BIM modelling software such as Grasshopper and Rhino, Revit

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia) and RPEng
