Job Summary

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Develop plans, procedures, and policies to continuously improve the program

  • Perform and document injury and accident investigations; includes performing root cause analysis & developing/delivering guidance for appropriate corrective action

  • Develop, coordinate, and execute an effective safety training program

  • Develop/maintain the safety and health program records-keeping/reporting system

  • Provide leadership and direction in all areas of a risk assessment, loss control, regulatory compliance, and safety program management

  • Establish & implement short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, & operating procedures; monitors/evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement

  • Plan and develop strategies for a comprehensive risk management program that includes appropriate performance records of all risk management programs

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate safety staff

  • Advise mgmt. concerning risk management policies/procedures/safety issues; included managing the hazard abatement program to the Customer's satisfaction

  • Coordinate OSHA and other required training programs targeted to reduce employee injuries and lost work time for contract and DoD personnel

  • Integrate employee assistance and risk management programs to ensure compliance, promote quality, and minimize company losses

  • Keep abreast of pending regulatory developments through reference sources; obtains insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels

  • Recommend and participate in the development of policies and procedures; serves as an advisor to the Director and Site Supervisor during planning on risk management issues related to the design and construction of facilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact when receiving explosive materials

  • Effectively manage the explosive safety program to include conducting annual explosive safety trainings to ensure compliance

  • Work in collaboration with multiple departments to efficiently store, handle, and transport explosive materials

  • Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure a safe and healthy work environment

  • Regularly inspect PPE prior to usage to ensure serviceable condition

  • Maintain Personal Protective Equipment inventory and promote awareness when an item or piece of equipment has been recalled or is defective

Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Safety or a related field with at least 3 years’ experience in occupational safety

  • Ability to read/analyze/develop business periodicals, toolbox topics, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), technical procedures, or governmental regulations

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the workforce.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of variables and concrete conditions in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

  • Proficiency with common computer software applications is expected

  • Certification/accreditation (CIH, ASP,CSP, etc.) in safety field desirable

  • Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
