Job Summary

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

Under general supervision serves as fire department dispatcher in the ECC (Emergency Communications Center) receiving, processing, & disseminating emergency and non-emergency information.

Receives emergency phone calls via the Enhanced-911 Emergency Reporting System, gathers pertinent information, and gives caller emergency specific directions.

Dispatches fire and medical emergency response vehicles and personnel as appropriate to aircraft, structural, hazardous materials, and medical emergencies in accordance with Fire and Emergency Services work instructions.

Receives trouble, supervisory, and fire alarms via the Monaco D-21 Public Recorded Radio Alarm System and determines actions required based on type of alarm, building number, and applicable fire system outages.

Receives routine phone calls in a professional manner and takes appropriate action.

Maintains daily and emergency logs, status of explosives and munitions storage, fire systems and vehicle outages, and additional emergency and routine information in the Automated Civil Engineer System - Fire Department (ACES-FD) database system.

Initiates recall of off-duty firefighters and makes required notifications during emergency and non-emergency operations.

Communicates via radio, in-station public address, and telephone systems to deliver pertinent information to responding crews.

Completes recurring proficiency training as scheduled.

Maintains appropriate and relevant documents, slides, and spreadsheets. Reads grid maps and establishes appropriate evacuation cordons, emergency control points, staging, and triage areas during emergency responses in accordance with established AEDC procedures.

It is a condition of employment to wear company issued uniforms and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.

Performs other related duties as appropriate.

SUPPLEMENTARY FUNCTIONS: Participation in functional specific safety training.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

The work environment requires the ability to cooperate, work in teams and work well with individuals at all levels of the company, the client, and outside users. The nature of the work requires the ability to communicate clearly. May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Use of personal transportation for travel within the AEDC area and company-provided transportation to other users’ facilities. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and carrying/lifting up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent.

Two years of full-time work experience directly related to the fire department communications center or in dispatching other emergency services.

Selected employee must:

(1) be physically and mentally able to perform the work;

(2) be able to speak in a clear manner and be temperamentally suited for the position, including being able to remain calm and take decisive action during emergencies; remain alert during periods of inactivity and when carrying out normal repetitive operations; and work harmoniously with a variety of personnel;

(3) be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, computer-aided dispatching programs, and general fire department operations and terminology;

(4) have a working knowledge computerized fire alarm and reporting systems;

(5) attend and successfully complete on- and off-site training courses as required by the Air Force and the Company;

(6) Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and maintain access to the AEDC local area network.


(1) DoD certification to the Hazardous Material Awareness Level;

(2) DoD certification to the Telecommunicator I and Telecommunicator II level are preferred. Other industry accepted certifications accompanied by greater than minimum direct work experience may be acceptable provided the candidate shall earn all required DoD certifications within 18 months;

(3) a valid Driver's License is required for this position.

Communication Skills:

Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to understand, give and take directions

Additional Licenses or Certifications:

May be required to obtain an Interim Security Clearance and shall obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain access to the AEDC local area computer network.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications: (DoD, Pro-Board, IFSAC, APCO, or other equivalent telecommunicator certification)
