AECOM Project Specialist - Early Project Planning Processes - TTC in Toronto, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM is in need of a Senior Project Specialist to work with our client TTC on some of their high-profile public Transit projects.

The job incumbent will be offered a regular, full-time position with AECOM and work on secondment to TTC. The secondment is expected to last two to three years. The employee will return to AECOM to be reassigned to another project when the secondment is complete.

Candidate will report for work at the TTC office a few times a week for the length of the secondment (COVID safety allowing.) The home office for the employee at that time will be the AECOM Markham office but you will most likely work from home.

This is a sourcing req meant to build a pipeline of talent to work for AECOM on secondment to our major client TTC.

Job Summary:

The job incumbent will be involved in development, preparation, and ongoing updates of project documentation (project management plan etc.) and working as the Lead for EAs/EPRs for two new maintenance and storage facilities.

Candidates should have in depth knowledge early project planning processes including project planning documentation, Environmental Assessment and or Transit Project Assessment Process.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Project Manager to deliver quality projects safely on time, on budget, from inception through scope development, design, procurement, construction, handover, and closeout;

  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders TTC stakeholder operations, engineering and systems departments to support and direct planning and design teams (consultant or in-house) through the audit, assessment and analysis to planning, concept design, costing, risk management of project and program deliverables, including appropriate constraints and milestones to facilitate Operations, customer service, and third party requirements;

  • Monitoring technical performance and ensuring all engineering milestones are met;

  • Experience coordinating passenger flow modelling and analysis and coordination of pilot projects to test preferred station flow improvements in the field,

  • Developing and coordinating the design and construction of station modifications including but not limited to fare gate and vertical circulation elements in stations

  • Coordinating work by third parties and value engineering activities;

  • Obtaining all the required sign-off and approvals both internally and from external agencies;

  • Providing project management support including cost, schedule and technical aspects and the coordination of all scope and project changes;

  • Preparing various status reports for the Project Manager, and performing related administrative duties as assigned to meet project requirements and commitments;

  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility).

Minimum Requirements

A University degree in architecture or engineering, combined with extensive experience in the areas of projects/construction and engineering management of heavy construction and/or large, multi-disciplined projects.

Early project planning processes including project planning documentation, Environmental Assessment and or Transit Project Assessment Process.

Equivalent combination of education and job experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the below is a preferred requirement:

  • Current governing transit-related architectural and engineering principles and practices

  • Project management principles and practices, including conceptual planning and all phases of design;

  • Project management information systems and reporting as it relates to control of scope, scheduling and cost;

  • Construction techniques and practices, contract administration, and knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, as related to subway and transit work;

  • Knowledge of government regulations, legislation and standards, safety regulations and procedures applicable to the project;

  • Sound judgement; highly developed time management, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; excellent analytical and problem solving skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships;

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project;

o Demonstrated experience in early project planning processes including project planning documentation, and Environmental Assessment and or Transit Project Assessment Process.PMP certification is an asset.

  • Proficiency in the use of a PC and software applications related to the work (Microsoft Office).
