Job Summary

TAMS (an AECOM company) is currently seeking a Human Resources / Labour Relations Business Partner to join our home office team in Calgary, AB. This is a Full-Time position.

TAMS operates in a hybrid office arrangement. While preference will be given to Calgary based candidates, consideration will be made for individuals based elsewhere in Western Canada or Ontario .

This position will provide a broad range of consultative guidance and “hands on” service excellence in supporting all HR related areas such as policy interpretation and best practices, process & procedure development and training, labour relations, as well as coaching on performance management and other employee relations issues across all of TAM’s operations, with the majority focus on Canada.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide guidance to our senior managers regarding Human Resources and Labour Relations matters

  • Foster positive relationship with TAMS’ union partners, while representing TAMS’ interests

  • Develop strong working relationship with client and industry counterparts in respect of overall industry initiatives and strategy concerns

  • Participate, alongside Operations, in Collective Bargaining for TAMS’ union agreements

  • Promote a strong understanding of the Labour Relations process across the business

  • Ensure timely and fair resolution of labour grievances and compliance to overall Collective Agreement obligations

  • Collaborate with Site Managers, Superintendents and Operations teams to proactively manage and prepare for successful project execution in the field

  • Lead employee relations investigations

  • Provide guidance to the business units in relation to employee lifecycle activities including recruitment, on-boarding, workforce development, employee management and succession, and terminations

  • Communicate and interpret policies and advise managers on their application

  • Ensure compliance with HR procedures and requirements

  • Provide updates on HR initiatives to senior management to ensure there is alignment with business unit plans

  • Participate in the annual strategic planning process and setting of company objectives

  • Create ad-hoc reporting from HRIS systems and maintain data integrity of the information

  • Ensure adequate Performance Management training is delivered to the business units and reinforce our programming as required

  • Identify ongoing needs or problems that require research, analysis and resolution, in order to meet the changing business requirements

  • Identify organizational training needs and participate in the coordination, development and delivery of training initiatives

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures

  • Prepare reports in conformance with legal requirements or organization needs

  • Management in labour relations, including the negotiation, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements

  • Other duties as assigned

In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 8 years of professional human resources or related experience

  • Strong understanding of Employment Standards and Labour Relations regulations across Canadian jurisdictions – particularly for Alberta and Ontario

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to details

  • Travel within Canada and/or to the United States will be required from time to time

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8-12 years of experience in HR generalist duties including Labour Relations experience in a unionized environment is preferred

  • Experience with Collective Agreement interpretation and best practices is a strong asset

  • Established labour relationships within the Building Trades and affiliated unions is a strong asset

  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation is an asset

  • Familiarity with the construction and oil and gas service sector is an asset

  • Experience in a multinational corporation, basic understanding of HR/LR management in a U.S. context and comfort with a functional matrix environment would be beneficial
