AECOM Senior Track Engineer in Thornhill, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Senior Track Engineer to join our Rail & Transit team in Markham, Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Rail & Transit, this position will be responsible for leading the track design engineering discipline for rail transit and freight rail projects and participating in the preparation of technical proposals for future projects.

The job responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of all track design elements and specifications to meet project requirements.

  • Perform and/or coordinate the planning, monitoring, analysis and evaluation of the track designs to effectively address design, construction, interface and maintenance issues.

  • Managing engineering staff and consultants performing track design for commuter, light rail and class 1 railroads.

  • Perform design reviews of the track alignment and trackwork through all project phases.

  • Reviewing design standards variances, participating and reviewing “value engineering” initiatives, and obtain stakeholder approvals.

  • Supporting quality control/quality assurance processes.

  • Reviewing technical documents for tender; working cooperatively with other disciplines in other departments in order to meet client requirements.

  • Reviewing request for proposals and providing technical content for the track design component of technical proposal and design-build submissions.

  • Developing requests for third party Work Plans and reviewing, negotiating, recommending release, and endorsing invoices of Work Plan phases as they relate to program-level trackwork initiatives.

  • Representing AECOM on all assigned technical matters relating to your expertise in track and track integration design.

  • Regular contacts are with all levels of employees and management staff in the Rail & Transit department.

  • Regular contact with clients, contractors, consultants, and other technical personnel.

  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • PE License required

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSCE in Civil Engineering

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in California

  • Commuter Rail, Light Rail and Freight track design experience

  • Experience with integrating track design with rail systems including communications, signaling and traction power

  • Hands-on experience with embedded and direct fixation track design

  • Demonstrated experience in leading rail transit trackwork designs and installation

  • 10 years of track design experience

  • Firm understanding of AREMA and North American freight rail standards.

  • Firm understanding of transit rail standards.

  • Prior experience in a consulting environment

  • Experience in Track Design and Integration for tunnels
