AECOM Senior Telecommunication Specialist in Thornhill, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM’s Markham office is currently seeking a Senior Telecommunication Specialist to join our growing Buildings and Places team. The Buildings and Places Team is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers Engineering, architectural, and project management services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects.

Project assignments may include, although not limited to, commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical, water/wastewater, and transit facilities;

Major Responsibilities:

Telecommunication and security systems design.

Building condition audits and reports;

Prepare a detailed design for telecommunication, security, CCTV, PA, intercom, and distributed antenna systems to accurately incorporate project guidelines.

Provide space planning, pathway, and cabling design for voice, data, security, wireless, etc.

Prepare specifications, contract documents, and prepare engineering progress reports;

Demonstrated understanding of quality standards relative to telecommunication and security system specification design and calculation software.

Travel to the construction sites to conduct installation reviews and prepare reports;

Technical supervision of junior engineers and technologists incl. mark-ups and review of design and drafting;

Telecommunication system commissioning

Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project

Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project-specific data

Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards;

Construction administration responsibilities:

Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports

Shop drawing reviews

SI and CCN preparations.

Contractor`s change quotation reviews

Progress billing reviews

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have, at the very least a BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience (or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education) to be considered. Candidates with less than this will not be considered for the role. See below for preferred requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Electronics and Communications Technology diploma. Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university ideal.

  • Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) with BICSI is an asset. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is ideal.

  • 6+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in a building engineering group

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm in design of telecommunication and security systems.

  • Interest in providing valuable technical leadership to junior-level employees; assisting them in developing their skills is ideal.

  • The ideal candidate would have significant local experience in the above-mentioned markets with strong ties and background in the local market and consulting community.

  • P3 experience will be given preference.

  • Some Project Management experience and training desired

  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same

  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
