AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer for employment out of our Markham, Ontario office. The successful candidate will work from home due to COVID-19, eventually working out of the office once safe to do so. This is a sourcing requisition meant to build a pipeline of candidates.
The Mechanical Engineer will be a part of our Architectural design practice Buildings + Places (B+P) team. B+P is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers architectural, engineering and project management services for construction projects. Project assignments will focus mainly on commercial and buildings, but could also include institutional buildings, transit facilities and more.
Major Responsibilities:
A key member of the mechanical design team, the Mechanical Engineer will:
Provide conceptual design at the early stages of the project and develop the concept to high quality detailed design, co-ordinate with all disciplines;
Perform Compliance Reviews of Design-Build contract documents and drawings
Design HVAC, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems;
Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs (i.e. Carrier HAP);
Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations;
Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards;
Working knowledge of the LEED rating system, or other green rating systems
Write/ edit mechanical specifications;
Occasional travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports.
Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical audience
Able to work independently or as part of a team
Minimum Requirements
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
At least 4 years of relevant experience doing mechanical design work within the buildings industry
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within Consulting engineering environment
In-depth knowledge of HVAC, Hydronic Systems, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems
Design knowledge of large-scale boiler/ chiller plants and distribution networks, district heating/ cooling, and co-generation systems an asset
Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills
