The Canada Indirect Tax Manager will oversee the Canadian Indirect Tax planning/ audit function for AECOM Shared service center and its various business lines with tax obligations in Canada
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Provide tax advice and assistance to Canadian business lines on indirect tax (GST/HST, QST and provincial sales taxes) on the general application of commodity taxes;
Contribute to the identification and reduction of tax risks related to indirect taxes and participate in the establishment and continuous improvement of controls and processes
Determine and analyze Canadian tax implications on potential future projects from an indirect tax perspective. Collaborate with cross- functional teams regarding activities at the international level with respect to Canadian projects.
Hands on management of the Canadian indirect tax audits (GST/HST, QST and PST) ensuring that tax audits are executed in an efficient, effective, and timely manner;
Communicate with the tax authorities regarding various tax correspondences (notice of assessment, statement of account, etc.).
Prepare information and training documents related to indirect tax compliance and give internal training to business units;
Provide SME guidance to Indirect Tax Compliance Manager and guidance working closely with the Indirect tax compliance team to assist in the end to end tax compliance process when needed, including but not limited to occasional reviews and sign offs of Indirect Tax Returns and payments
Work closely with tax technology to identify automated solutions to the indirect tax processes, and create standard data analytics
Drive and implement changes required to indirect tax compliance processes as a result of changes to indirect tax legislation
Responsible for GST elections along with ensuring registrations are filed
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
Minimum 8 years of experience in the area of commodity/ indirect taxation; with specific experience in indirect tax audit management
CPA/ CA/ CMI/ CTA or equivalent tax certification
Completion of indirect tax courses ( In-Depth GST/HST Course or equivalent);
Significant and detailed knowledge of the Canadian and provincial commodity tax legislation (GST/HST, QST, PST);
Experience with Oracle R12 and Tax Data Analytics
Strong team attitude and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks;
Highly organized with strong project management skills.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to work with all levels in a global organization.
Travel may be required
Six Sigma Green Belt a plus
Tax engine knowledge a plus ( Vertex O, OneSource)
Tax Analytics Skills ( Alteryx, Tableau) a plus
Completion of/or enrollment in the Master of Tax program would be considered an asset;
Fluently bilingual (English and French).
