Job Description

Due to ongoing growth and some exciting project wins both locally and internationally, AECOM is seeking an experiencedTunnelling Engineer to join our Sydney team.

Our Ground Engineering and Tunnelling team has many long-term projects, which provide a solid workload. In addition to these are a variety of technical advisor, tender, and design & construction projects throughout Australia, as well as globally.

You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from a strong team of tunnelling engineers, geotechnical engineers, and engineering geologists, of all levels. There is also the opportunity to be involved with projects from the earliest stages of planning, ground investigation, design, all the way through to construction and operational management phases. As an experienced practitioner, you will also be required to play an active role in winning and delivering projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide the team or package with design analysis, reporting and drawings

  • Organise independent work plans and design activities for projects of medium/high complexity

  • Involvement in model and drawing production and with interfaces between key above and below ground elements

  • Provide multi-disciplinary teams clear knowledge and expertise on soil and rock mechanics and ground-structure interactions

  • Effectively manage internal and external client relationships and expectations

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and review activities carried out by early career professionals

  • Support tunnelling proposals with technical inputs, including methodologies and techniques

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural, geotechnical engineering, or equivalent

  • Post-graduate qualifications (highly valued)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (essential)

  • Post-graduate experience in tunnelling and underground engineering including both office and field-based assignments

  • Knowledge of a variety of tunnel construction methodologies for TBM, mined and cut-and-cover tunnels

  • Experience in design of ground support and structural design of tunnels

  • Experience with Australian standards. Knowledge of international standards, such as Eurocodes would also be advantageous

  • Knowledge of software for tunnel design such as RS2/3, PLAXIS 2D & 3D, Rocscience suite, Strand7 and similar. Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Willingness to travel for limited periods

Please note that less experienced candidates will also be considered.
