AECOM Senior/Principal Grid Connection Engineer in Sydney, Australia

Job Summary

At AECOM we are passionate about the future and this role presents an opportunity to help achieve transformational outcomes for our clients, working with global experts to address the complex grid connection challenges to transition our region towards a higher penetration of renewable energy generation.

AECOM’s market-leading Renewables, Generation & Advisory team is looking for a driven electrical engineer who is active in the energy sector and passionate about technical excellence.

We work closely with utilities, investors, regulators, new entrants, and developers on their energy projects. You will be instrumental in growing the grid connection practice in Sydney and leading various pursuits and opportunities whilst delivering timely advice to our clients throughout Australia to achieve their goals.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be actively involved in an innovative and highly motivated team of energy professionals currently delivering industrial, landmark utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects throughout Australia and internationally. The team is currently delivering on a range of projects including design, Owner’s Engineer, and project management roles as well as front-end work such as site identification and evaluation, feasibility studies, concept design, and grid connection studies associated with future generation and storage projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Engineering consulting experience, preferably in the renewable energy sector and high voltage substation design

  • Proven understanding of transmission and distribution network planning including customer connection process and associated guidelines and requirements for connecting utility-scale new generators and loads

  • Proven experience in the preparation of technical specifications and contract administration of grid-related schedules.

  • Hands-on experience delivering projects from the concept planning through to commissioning and grid compliance monitoring phase

  • Exceptional levels of written and oral communication

  • PSSE and PSCAD modelling experience of renewable developments would be ideal.

  • Knowledge of the major power generation technologies and the major equipment OEMs and plant suppliers

  • Familiarity with power station concepts, layout, and ancillary systems
