AECOM Principal Engineer – Civil & Tunneling in Sydney, Australia

Job Summary

Our Ground Engineering team in Sydney is seeking experienced Tunnelling engineers with structural, soil or rock mechanics backgrounds to support our existing and upcoming Tunnelling project demands.

We are actively looking to expand our core Tunnelling business with the appointment of a Senior / Principal Engineer, with more experienced applicants also welcomed. We offer the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most challenging Tunnelling projects in a supportive team environment.

Role Responsibilities

You will provide technical support to tunnelling projects throughout Australia, New Zealand and globally. At AECOM we work on a wide range of projects, from client-based delivery through to detailed design for Design and Construct contractors.

  • Assist in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects for an array of local, national, and international clients.

  • Contribute to technical concepts and approaches.

  • Prepare and manage the delivery of technical reports and proposals.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with public and private clients.

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and review activities completed by early career professionals.

  • Contribute to the growth of AECOM’s tunnelling, geotechnical, and underground engineering practice in Australia and New Zealand.

Minimum Requirements

The following requirements are indicative and can be based on your level of experience, namely:

  • Be well advanced in applying for or having achieved chartered engineer status, or equivalent.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (essential).

  • Experienced in design and construction of multiple tunnelling and shaft construction methodologies, deep cuts, and difficult ground conditions.

  • Experienced in detailed design, concept design and feasibility studies.

  • Ideally national and international experience in a range of infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to plan, execute, document, and manage projects.

  • Experience in conducting constructability reviews.

  • Understands Safety in Design and risk management processes and able to demonstrate and implement industry best practice for the design and construction of underground structures.

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate the integration of geotechnical designs with other disciplines.

  • You will be required to guide packages of work in your control and deliver designs, reports, and specifications for underground works.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Post-graduate qualifications (high valued)
