Shimmick Construction, an AECOM Co., is seeking a Senior level Estimator for our Suisun offices.
Brief Job Description:
Responsible for all aspects of Estimating process
Perform detailed quantity take-offs
Conduct thorough review of drawings and specifications
Perform detailed project cost estimate using estimating software such as Hard Dollar/HCSS
Be able to produce general project schedules for the purposes of estimating
Solicit subcontractors and vendors and ensure scope coverage prior to bid day
Analyze and select subcontractors and vendors
Lead and participate in discussion regarding constructibility and means and methods
Mentor/Teach junior estimators
Ability/Experience leading large bid-build estimates up to or in excess of 100 Million
Understands estimating terminology and measures and recognizes estimating processes/project actions that may impact the project.
Participates with management in development of strategies and plans.
Participates in analyzing and using estimations to predict key project issues.
Assists in the evaluation of business opportunities and potential profitability.
Understands construction means, methods, and sequences-multiple disciplines.
Supervises junior staff through task development, establishing and maintaining goals and expectations, and documenting performance related issues and achievements.
Identifies and develops talent.
Assists in tracking action items.
This is a supervisory/technical specialist position responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the work of subordinates under the direction of a manager or functions as a technical expert.
May work directly with contractor to resolve technical matters during negotiation and contract execution.
Prepares crew build-ups and production rate determinations.
Determines construction equipment selection.
Possesses a working knowledge of planning and scheduling.
Understands company cost structure (overheads, G&A, insurances).
Develops Work Breakdown Structures.
Capable of managing the preparation of an estimate.
Leads Project Team estimate reviews.
Evaluates suitability of scope and execution plan for basis of estimate.
Initiates the preparation of an Estimate Plan (approach, techniques, level of effort, cost, schedule), Basis of Estimate and qualifications.
Prepares bid tabulations responding to the customer/Request for Proposal requirements.
Collects, analyzes and archives project data. Develops historical documentation.
BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Civil/Structural/Earthwork or Mechanical estimating experience is required
Mastery of excel is a requirement.
- Hard Dollar and experience with it is ideal, preferred to have experience in either Hard Dollar or HCSS.
Experience in Bluebeam or other on screen take-off type program.
Experience in P6 is a plus, but not required.
If you have a combination of field experience and estimating experience this is a plus.
If you have experience in bidding on design-build projects this is a plus.
If you have experience in bidding on large joint venture projects this is a plus.
