Job Summary

AECOM’s Ontario Environmental Impact Assessment and Permitting team is filling a full-time, permanent position for a Project Health & Safety Manager. The immediate assignment is to support the construction of a large wind energy project in Central Ontario. In this position, you will oversee AECOM’s On-site Project Health & Safety (H&S) Representatives and will work directly with AECOM’s Project Manager and Corporate H&S team. AECOM is not the Constructor on the Project so the primary responsibilities are to manage the health & safety of AECOM’s employees working on site and to respond to Client and Constructors’ requests for health & safety information. The candidate will be expected to work in an office setting, on the site of the project, in rugged terrain within central Ontario.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience managing health & safety at construction sites involving 100+ employees. Knowledge and demonstrated experience of working on renewable energy projects such as wind farms, is an asset. The candidate must be highly motivated and accountable, enjoy working outdoors, work well collaboratively with other team members, and be an effective communicator. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced environment are essential qualities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary contact for AECOM’s Project Manager, Client and Constructors for all health & safety related information

  • Oversee Project Health & Safety Representatives present on site

  • Report to Project Manager regularly to provide updates on project health & safety

  • Attend Client and Constructors health & safety meetings, as required

  • Represent management on the Joint Health & Safety Committee

  • Ensure timely, accurate and complete reporting of H&S incidents, near misses and observations by AECOM employees

  • Lead incident investigations and perform root cause analyses on behalf of AECOM

  • Assist the Project Manager in presenting Executive Incident Reviews to AECOM’s executive leadership team

  • Ensure implementation of the project Safe Work Plan

  • Perform periodic audits of the project against AECOM’s health & safety protocols and procedures and Certificate of Recognition (COR) program

Minimum Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or degree in occupational health and safety

  • 5+ years of experience in occupational health and safety in Ontario, Canada and construction experience

  • Certified Health & Safety Representative

  • Valid Standard First Aid + CPR

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently

  • Ability to work in both field and office environments

  • Must possess a valid class G driver’s license

  • Must be a resident of Ontario

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified, Register Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or Safety Engineer, P. Eng.

  • Experience working with First Nations communities

  • Previous experience on blasting projects would be an asset

  • Experience with Health & Safety Information Management System (e.g. IndustrySafe)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Bilingual (English and French) is an asset
