Job Summary

AECOM Environment is actively seeking an experienced, creative, highly talented Construction Manager to support construction environmental monitoring elements of large scale projects in Ontario over the next few years, with opportunities to support work on a variety of projects across the country in the mid to long-term.

The Construction Manager is a member of the Impact Assessment and Permitting Team within AECOM’s Environmental Business Line and will be responsible for taking a senior / leadership role (i.e. Environment Lead or co-lead) in the delivery of construction monitoring and management of projects. The Environmental Construction Manager must show a strong track record in construction monitoring delivery as well as Health and Safety processes and communication.

This role will require significant interaction with the Project Team to maintain seamless communications and client confidence on all project delivery progress. The program of work is fast moving and extremely demanding; this role will require strong management and leadership skills to work collaboratively with contractors and the project management team, and to motivate and manage construction monitoring teams to provide excellence in execution of the project(s).

Location: Ontario - starting on-site at the Henvey Inlet Wind project, located 90Km north of Parry Sound. There will be the potential for a significant amount of travel within Ontario to support project delivery.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the delivery of the environmental construction monitoring requirements for projects including leading the coordination with the contractor, working closely with the AECOM Project Manager regarding project delivery, schedule and logistics planning, and working with the client to manage project issues and build and maintain positive client relationships

  • Manage the daily operations of a team of permanent and contract employees hired specifically for the project

  • Coordinate the work of environmental specialists including scheduling of work as appropriate, to satisfy seasonal and permit/approval requirements

  • Support the Project Manager, including hiring of contract employees, procurement and management of subs and vendors, scope and schedule tracking relative to the project plan, and health and safety

  • Manage logistical aspects of the project including field logistics planning, scheduling of field staff, procurement of field equipment etc

  • Manage the delivery of client and AECOM H&S requirements

  • Ensure that work is delivered within the agreed values of AECOM and the client

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Environmental Engineering, Certified Engineering Technologist, Environmental Planning or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience

  • 5+ years of experience in an Environmental Construction Management role including project management, management and/or coordination of field crews or contract staff, logistical coordination of field work in remote locations, or other relevant work experience

  • Experience in environmental monitoring or other construction-related experience

  • Working knowledge of environmental compliance monitoring and experience in executing Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Protection Plans.

  • Experience in managing Species at Risk Act / Endangered Species Act permitting conditions and associated requirements for construction as well as related environmental legislation..

  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario health and safety requirements

  • Confident and capable individual with strong client focus

  • Experienced in managing a diverse construction / environmental monitoring team

  • Strong track record in delivering projects in a fast moving and challenging environment

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight dead-lines

  • Experience working in the renewable energy sector and / or linear /infrastructure projects in Ontario

  • Well organized, strong skills in written and spoken communication and strong ability to work well with people

  • Flexibility to work, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn

  • Must possess a Class G driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in written and spoken French is an asset
