Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an advanced Industrial Electrician 5 to join our 1 st shift team of highly skilled multi-craft technicians at a major pharmaceutical facility in the Greater St. Louis area.

This position is responsible for performing at the subject matter expert level with respect to planning, and performing preventive maintenance, responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing emergency repairs on electrical equipment and systems, including industrial and/or commercial electrical power systems, lighting and utilities equipment , in a pharmaceutical facility environment.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot all facility equipment and systems including normal and emergency power systems, power distribution systems, conduit and wiring and all related electrical systems, switch gears, motors, disconnects and breakers, AC and variable frequency drives, low voltage controls, PLCs, lighting systems, building automation systems, motor control centers up to and including 480V, etc.

Strong electrical / mechanical skills are required for repairs of HVAC units, conveyors, motors, control circuits, VFDs, and PLCs. The ability to safely work with 3 phase 480v power is a must and includes the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in an industrial environment.

Provides instruction, mentors and trains less skilled technicians as needed. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems.

The Industrial Electrician 5 must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Complies with established Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs on a variety of electrical equipment, controls and systems to include, but not limited to the facilities electrical power and lighting infrastructure.

  • Performs preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and repairs on all electrical systems and equipment, instruments, control systems, drives, and lighting systems.

  • Performs administrative tasks such as developing work plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.

  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

  • Utilizes strong mechanical and electrical skills in order to complete assignments.

  • Works independently (i.e. with minimal supervision) as well as within the context of a team.

  • Trains, assists, and coaches other technicians, as appropriate.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment.

  • Be flexible in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

  • Coordinates work with outside contractors. Assures code and building standards are met.

  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Six years of experience as an industrial maintenance electrician, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Some tasks will require the ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.

  • Requires the ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs as needed during a workday.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, kneel, reach/stretch, and move in a 90-degree fashion during workday.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.

  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access data bases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.

  • Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other AECOM, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.

  • Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree in an Industrial Electrical or related skilled trade program.

  2. Experience troubleshooting and repairing components up to 480V 3 phase.

  3. Experience troubleshooting and repairing lighting and security related systems.

  4. Experience troubleshooting and repairing electric motors and motor controls.

  5. Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing PLCs.

  6. Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

  7. Experience in troubleshooting 4-20mA circuits.
