Job Summary

AECOM's is recruiting for a Structural Engineer who will work on a portfolio of projects within the St Albans Structures Team. You will be providing design and analysis solutions to building structures problems.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a key role on a range of structural engineering design projects for public and private sector clients. Projects will generally be within the South East but some may be in the wider United Kingdom or in international locations requiring occasional travel to meetings and construction sites. The post will also involve working in multi-disciplinary engineering, transportation and environmental teams on some projects, drawing on resources in other UK Offices.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a keen interest in Building Structures and a strong desire to develop technically.

Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for the preparation of structural calculations.

  • Undertake structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.

  • Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others

  • Assist in the management of project delivery in order to provide clients with results on time and budget

  • Undertake structural design of structures using current British Standards and Eurocodes

  • Have a desire to learn new skills and the ability to consider the wider engineering issues related to the work being undertaken

  • Coordinating with other professional like architects, MEP engineers, contractors, etc.

  • Analysing problems and developing innovative solutions

Minimum Requirements

  • Working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers

  • Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to results of computer analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions

  • Demonstrable track record in the preparation of designs contributing to the delivery of client projects

  • Experienced in use of a commercially available design software

  • Ability to communicate well in the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Experience of structural engineering design using Eurocodes for of a range of structures in steel and reinforced concrete.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Passion for structural engineering

  • A creative approach to problem solving

  • An interest in using programming and algorithms to solve structural problems

  • An interest in parametric geometry definition

  • Desirable: Full, clean driving licence

  • Ability to communicate using hand drawn sketches.

  • Able to work on a number of projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline

  • Bachelors degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline
