AECOM has a new job vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer to be based in our St Albans Campus. For us a senior Engineer will normally be chartered but we will consider applicants who are close to completing this process who have team leadership and clear project experience.
You will run, and project manage your own projects and have responsibility for sections of larger works with the support of our Principal and Associate Engineers. You will be providing design and analysis solutions to building structures problems and you will mentor engineers, graduates and technicians towards further professional qualifications.

About the team:
We are an established team of over 30 Structural engineers based in our St Albans Campus. We have two buildings and work within a larger multi-disciplinary office 100+. We work with and socialise with our other specialist teams which contributes to a positive and motivated atmosphere for what is a key strategic office for AECOM.
We manage calculations and designs as well as technical audits on large multi-million pound projects such as the Shard, the Walkie talkie building and 150 Bishopsgate. We offer a real variety of sectors for you to gain experience in from complex government projects, to cutting edge private commercial builds and of course our more standard commercial and residential portfolio.
To clarify our projects will generally be within the South East, but some will be located nationally and, in some instances, internationally requiring occasional travel to meetings and construction sites.
The post will also involve supporting and occasionally leading the structural engineering design for multi-disciplinary engineering teams on our projects, potentially drawing on resources in other UK Offices when needed.
You will manage a portfolio of projects, offer expert advise to clients, attend formal meetings, support with tender submissions and provide reports and technical reviews. All of this will be done in professional environment that offer you the freedom to work where you need to be, to ensure a better work life balance.
You will need experience of structural engineering design using Eurocodes or similar national standards for of a range of structures in steel and reinforced concrete. We would expect you to have a sound knowledge of construction contracts and commercial awareness along with an understanding of CDM regulations and duties.
Take responsibility for the preparation of structural calculations.
Undertake structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.
Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others.
Assist in the management of project delivery, to provide clients with results on time and budget.
Mentor and support more junior engineers.
Experienced in use of a commercially available design software packages (e.g. Tekla Building Designer, Tedds)
Some experience in the use of Finite Element Software (eg Lusas, Ansys) desirable
Ability to communicate using hand drawn sketches.
Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to results of computer analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions
Demonstrable track record in the preparation of designs contributing to the delivery of client projects
Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline
Bachelors degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline
Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers or similar
Full, clean driving licence
