AECOM’s Sustainability team are industry leaders in the field of low carbon design and sustainability in the built environment. Our projects range from working with Government to support Building Regulations and National planning policy relating to climate change, to developing energy and sustainability strategies to support the design and planning of new development and the resilience of cities.

We are seeing an increasing demand for our consultancy services to assist organisations, cities and regions to develop carbon strategies and action plans for achieving net zero emissions. We are seeking a senior energy/carbon consultant to join our established London based Sustainable Development Group to support this area of work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key responsibilities, with support from the team, will include the following:

  • Provide consultancy support to organisations (public and private sector) to develop carbon reduction and GHG emissions reduction strategies

  • Provide consultancy support to developers, building estate owners, local authorities, cities and regions to develop multi-sectoral strategies for achieving net zero

  • Contributing to a wide range of projects as the work load dictates including energy strategies for major new developments

  • Writing proposals and winning new work

  • Building client relationships and delivering work

  • Presentations to clients and chairing meetings

  • Delivering high quality, clearly written outputs

  • Delegating work to junior staff and managing delivery

  • Has a solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects.

  • Under limited supervision, responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitions.

  • Has broad technical knowledge but possesses an area of specialization or focus.

Minimum Requirements

  • A science, engineering, or building-related degree; a building sustainability/energy related MSc is desirable

  • An ability to communicate effectively, be client-facing and able to write concise and clear reports;

  • Have a good understanding of and interest in sustainable development issues as they relate to the built environment

  • Experience in helping organisations to cut carbon emissions at a town or city scale

  • An understanding of recognised Greenhouse Gas reporting methodologies

  • Experience in compiling energy and emissions data at building or city scales

  • An understanding of practical approaches for cutting carbon emissions in buildings and the built environment

  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and stakeholder workshop facilitation

  • Experience in bidding for or supporting the winning of work

  • Experience in project and client management

If not currently chartered, ideally should be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE, Energy Institute, IEMA)

Established professional experience in energy/carbon consulting, or other related experience in the consulting industry and/or private or public sector.

Desirable skills

  • Experience of techno-economic analysis of carbon reduction measures

  • Experience of relevant data sources and approaches for compiling energy use and emissions data

  • Experience in preparing climate action plans or net zero strategies
