We have an excellent opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to play an important role within our growing Development Infrastructure Team. Increasing demands for our services have created an opportunity in St Albans to be involved in the delivery of major projects. The Development Infrastructure Team are routinely involved in infrastructure aspects of masterplanning projects including drainage, SuDS, flood risk, utilities and highways. We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil/Water Engineer, capable of working independently where required, and also able to lead design or project teams. This is an ideal opportunity for a suitable experienced Engineer to develop their career and assist in the technical direction and future development of this team.
Key responsibilities will include carrying out flood risk assessments, feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs and preparing reports, technical specifications and preparing project proposals for key local, regional and international clients. The role will also involve supporting business development activities.
Work under the direction of Principal Engineer and/or Project Manager;
Take responsibility for the technical feasibility/design for development projects in the disciplines of drainage, SuDS, highways, flooding, utilities, earthworks and sustainability;
As necessary manage staff in a small project team, liaise with the project client, deal with commercial issues and represent the team internally and externally at an appropriate level;
Ensure work is produced in accordance with the Client’s brief and to agreed programme and budget/margin;
Prepare technical reports and specifications and check work/specifications of sub-ordinates;
Assist senior management in the preparation of technical and financial proposals;
Contribute with respect to technical development, market sectors and processes;
Provide consultation responses to planning applications on behalf of Clients;
Develop client relationships, secure repeat business work where possible and actively seek new work from existing clients;
Specific Skills Required
Experience of development infrastructure projects from feasibility, through the planning process to detailed design for implementation;
Experience of design of drainage, SuDS and preparation of Flood Risk Assessments;
Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams;
Have knowledge and experience of S104 schemes including detailed drainage design and hydraulic modelling and able to develop technical drawings and specifications to support S104 submissions;
Able to lead and mentor junior staff from a variety of professional backgrounds;
Experience of liaising with government departments, local authorities, water and utility companies, Environment Agency and other public bodies and procuring necessary approvals;
Experience in supervising and developing staff;
Some knowledge of other work streams including transportation, sustainable energy, geotechnical and geo-environmental and river and ground modelling would be an advantage;
Ability to take full responsibility for producing, checking and approving engineering reports and designs;
Excellent oral and written communication skills and able to represent AECOM in Client facing roles at all levels;
Accustomed to working at the highest levels of HSSE compliance at all design stages;
Skilled at collaborative working, with excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels;
Highly motivated, proactive and excited by new challenges.
Ideally a Chartered member, or working towards chartered status, of an appropriate institute (ICE, CIHT or CIWEM). However applications from those with an appropriate mix of academic qualifications and practical experience will be considered;
Computer software literate including MSWord, MSExcel, WinDes (Microdrainage), Flood Modeller, ISIS/Tuflow and PDS or MX and CAD at advanced level. Experience of Civils 3D would be advantageous.

BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or another relevant subject.
Alternative qualifications may be considered where the candidate can demonstrate significant, relevant experience.
