Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant to join the AECOM Acoustics team, working on acoustics projects, and supporting junior staff.

You will contribute to a wide range of sound, noise, and vibration projects, with a focus on environmental acoustics, but ability to contribute to building acoustics projects is also desirable.

The ideal candidate will have experience of providing expert advice to clients on environmental acoustics across a range of sectors including windfarms, road and rail schemes, power, residential and commercial. We are seeking personnel with the ability to demonstrate experience of resourcing and delivering complex and challenging acoustics projects. You will have a track record of working in acoustics and preferably have experience of a range of acoustics commissions from small projects to major multi-disciplinary projects covering sound, noise and vibration technical areas. You will have a strong background in acoustics, be innovative and willing to exploit the latest technologies, but who can also explain acoustics to a non-technical audience.

A member of the Association of Noise Consultants and Sponsor of the Institute of Acoustics, AECOM Acoustics has a team of 50 acousticians working across the UK.

AECOM is one of the largest acoustics practices in the world with offices across Europe, Australia, America, Canada, the Middle East and East Asia. Acoustics is part of AECOM’s Environment and Sustainability business which provides environmental management services for feasibility, impact analysis and operational compliance as well as remediation, restoration and re-use of impacted property.

As a member of our Acoustics team you can expect to work on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects including some of the biggest projects in the UK. Recent and current clients include HS2, Balfour Beatty Vinci, SSE, INEOS, Battersea Power Station, Houses of Parliament, HMRC, BBC, Guys and St Thomas’s, DEFRA, National Highways, and Shell.

To be successful in this role the candidates should :

  • be keen to work collaboratively within an established acoustics team. The successful candidate would also work across wider multi-disciplinary design teams and be expected to establish strong working relationships with other internal teams.

  • have excellent technical, project management, presentation, report writing, commercial, personal organisation and communication skills.

  • be able to write reports and undertake EIAs/prepare ES Noise and Vibration chapters for a range of projects, and be conversant with relevant legislation, policy, standards, and guidance across different regions of the UK and Ireland.

  • be able to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients; write proposals, lead the acoustic input to projects, manage the technical and financial aspect of projects and manage, mentor and teach junior staff.

  • undertake, oversee and technically review acoustic modelling using software such as CadnaA, CATT, Insul, EASE, and SketchUp.

  • undertake a range of site measurements and testing, data analysis, predictions and write and technically review reports on a range of projects. Experience of displaying and manipulating datasets in GIS software would also be beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm, self-motivation, a team approach and customer focus,

  • Relevant consultancy experience in the fields of building/ architectural acoustics for a variety of project types and sizes,

  • Proven ability to deliver client expectations to budget and timescale,

  • Excellent technical report writing, personal organization and communication skills

  • Experience of acoustic prediction using both spreadsheets and industry recognized software.

  • Be familiar with modelling software.

  • Full, clean driving license.
