We are currently recruiting for a waste and resources management consultant to join our UK-wide waste and resources team, which forms part of AECOM’s wider Climate Change, Sustainability and Resilience practice.

You will be responsible for delivering consultancy and advisory services relating to all aspects of waste management and the circular economy, with a focus on waste strategy and planning, although with opportunities to also work on other aspects of waste management both in the UK and internationally. Ideally based in London or elsewhere in the South East, you will also help to develop business opportunities in this area and grow the team. You will be responsible for management of some projects, whilst for others you will work as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team.

You should have strong knowledge and experience in waste management, and an understanding of emerging trends in the waste field. The existing client base includes both public and private sector organisations in the waste, water, nuclear, pharmaceuticals, oil, gas, construction, manufacturing, and transport sectors. The role offers the opportunity to embed sustainable and circular economy approaches to resource management into high-profile projects and clients.

  • We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with the following:

  • Demonstratable experience and knowledge of waste/resource management;

  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working and managing smaller independent projects;

  • A desire to deliver technical excellence;

  • Experience of working to budgets and tight deadlines;

  • Confident user of Microsoft office software;

  • Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;

  • Great communication skills in English, fluency in other languages advantageous;

  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities

  • Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under own initiative; and

  • Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with large data sets and advanced Excel skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong science or engineering based undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental / science/ waste management discipline is required – a MSc or equivalent is desirable.

  • Experience of writing technical deliverables to a high standard.

  • Experience of working in or with waste sector operators is advantageous

Preferred Qualifications

The following attributes are preferred:

  • Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g. CIWM).

  • Prior work in consultancy.

  • Project management training and qualifications;

  • Experience of work winning, proposal writing and business development;

  • Experience of developing waste strategies for public or private sector clients;

  • Knowledge of the circular economy
