The Business Unit SHE Lead, working as part of the Europe and E&GE SH&E Team, is to ensure that they engage the Business Unit management to strategize and plan for SH&E delivery and manage SH&E resource requirements. With the aim to work within the Business Unit delivery teams to help recognise the SH&E requirements, considerations and challenges which are present within their works, aid in risk mitigation and monitor performance / SH&E outputs, taking action where required to improve standards.

The role will consist of, but not be limited to;

  • Development of Management Systems – Work with E&GE SHE team and Business Unit management team to produce delivery systems, procedures, standards, develop training programmes, briefing, safety moments, etc. as required to improve Business Unit SH&E performance.

  • Tender Support – Provide support to the Work Winning team to provide and review SH&E tender responses and material, attending tender planning and review meetings as required.

  • Opportunity Calls / Go-No-Goes – Review project scope and potential project SH&E risks to identify and advise on SH&E considerations and challenges within the project, proposing possible mitigation considerations where these exist.

  • Healthy Starts – Review SH&E readiness of project to commence preparation works for site works, ensuring all key hazards / risks have been identified and a strategy is in place to develop suitable and sufficient mitigation measures to control them.

  • Project Readiness – Work with project teams to ensure that all SH&E requirements have been delivered to a suitable and sufficient standard by the required dates to enable project comment, ensuring implantation on site meets project documented standards.

  • Project Performance / SHE Resource – Ensure projects are reviewed regularly to maintain high standards of SH&E, providing sufficient SH&E resource as required by the scope of works, organising and managing this resource as required.

  • Business Unit Meetings – Attend Business Unit meetings and provide updates on SH&E performance, workstream, initiatives and improvement areas to Business Unit team.

  • Accident Review, Management & Investigations – Review all incidents and accident generated through Business Unit activities, ensuring compliance to AECOM systems, investigation to the appropriate level, corrective action assignment and close out and preventative learning is imbedded into the business.

  • Client Engagement – Engage with Business Unit clients to promote and manage SH&E issues and develop relationships.

  • Management SH&E Resource – Support all direct reports and SH&E staff working on Business Unit projects, aims and objectives are met, SH&E standards are achieved, best practice is shared, project roles and responsibilities are fulfilled.

  • Inspections and Audits – Complete monthly sample audits of live projects and processes within Business Unit utilising AECOM reporting platforms, closing out non-conformances to a satisfactory standard and ensure lessons learnt are shared and improvements to SH&E implemented.

  • SH&E Meetings – Chair Business Unit (and wider) meetings to address specific SH&E issues, initiatives, programs to ensure improvement / success of SH&E program.

  • Reporting - Generate and present SH&E reports as required for projects, practice areas and the Business Unit as required to communicate SH&E performance and program of improvement.

  • Wellbeing – Support the Business Unit employee’s wellbeing through AECOM initiatives and engagement with the BU management.

  • Advice / Guidance and Support – Provide expert SH&E advice, guidance and support to all Business Unit personnel, ensuring the such advice, guidance is correct and issued in a timely manner to support Business Unit functions.

  • Role Model – Lead by example in the promotion of SH&E throughout all engagements

Minimum Requirements

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Worked at a managerial level with similar responsibilities within a SH&E role for a large contractor / consultant.

  • Experience of working on high profile projects within an industry leading health, safety and environmental management system.

  • Experience of Remediation, Ground Investigation, Archaeology, Ecology and other pre-contraction sectors.

  • Be a self-starter, driven individual, pro-active and committed, someone who motivates themselves and those around them to achieve high quality standards.

  • Be able to develop bespoke systems, processes, procedures, training material, tender responses to a high quality, meeting project deadlines.

  • Hold project management skills, with the ability to influence and engage with colleagues.

  • Can articulate their requirements in clear and concise language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, plus occupational relevant qualifications.

  • Preferably CMIOSH or working towards it.
