AECOM Senior Scientist/ Project Manager in Southfield, Michigan

Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for a Senior Scientist/Project Manager in our Southfield, MI office. The successful applicant will join a network of existing AECOM Remediation Specialists across the US and will have the resources of more than 3,500 regional staff available to assist in project delivery. Our Southfield office offers a variety of environmental assessment, investigation, and survey services to Federal, State, and local government agencies; Fortune 500 corporations; and many manufacturing and commercial clients.

Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Project and task management.

  • Correspondence with subcontractors and vendors.

  • Coordination of field work.

  • Data reduction, review, and interpretation.

  • Report drafting and Conceptual Site Model development.

  • Review of junior level reports and field notes to ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.

  • Interaction with the public and/or clients as a representative of AECOM.

  • Maintenance of scope, schedule, and budget associated with various project tasks.

  • Client invoicing and budget-setting.

  • Periodic field work, including:◦Calibration of field instrumentation and documentation.

◦Completion of lithologic descriptions of soils from drilling activities.

◦Field preservation of samples in preparation for laboratory analysis.

◦Development of site specific SHE Safety Plans.

◦Completion of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) paperwork and observations.

◦Sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas.

◦Installation of groundwater monitoring wells and vapor monitoring points.

◦Oversight of subcontractors performing various tasks.

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, Engineering or equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience and or equivalent of experience and or education.

  • Michigan Driver’s License in good standing.

  • Project/task management experience.

Demonstrate equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience:

  • Regulatory knowledge and experience related to Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan PA 451.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates.

  • Recent experience with Part 213 and Part 201.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.

  • Ability to represent clients with the public as appropriate. Must have the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with diverse teams and successfully manage/deliver project scope, schedule and budget.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client presentations and written report preparation, and demonstrated ability to complete and coordinate the preparation of high quality work products in a team environment.
