AECOM Mid-Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist in Southfield, Michigan

Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for a experienced Geologist in our Southfield, MI office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. Familiarity with Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan’s PA 451. Will be focused on task management and drafting.

The successful candidate will also assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in a variety settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports. The ideal candidate will successfully demonstrate achievement, proficiency, and progressive responsibility in the following areas:

Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Data reduction, review, and interpretation.

  • Drafting of figures using AutoCAD.

  • Familiarity with Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan’s PA 451.

  • Review of junior level reports and field notes to ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.

  • Development of site specific SHE Safety Plans.

  • Completion of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) paperwork and observations.

  • Sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas.

  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells and vapor monitoring points.

  • Oversight of subcontractors performing various tasks.

  • Interaction with the public as a representative of AECOM.

  • Calibration of field instrumentation and documentation.

  • Completion of lithologic descriptions of soils from drilling activities.

  • Field preservation of samples in preparation for laboratory analysis

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, Engineering or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience and or equivalent of experience and or education.

  • Michigan Driver’s License in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates.

  • Familiarity with Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan’s PA 451.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Multi-tasker and problem-solver.

  • Attention to detail and desire to complete quality work products.

  • Ability to work well with others and comprehend instruction quickly.

  • Proficient in map reading.
