AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated ITS/Traffic Engineer for immediate employment in our Southfield Michigan office. Applicants will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful and able to prioritize the successful execution of a wide-range of ITS and traffic engineering project related tasks. The appropriately qualified applicant will need to clearly demonstrate their experience and knowledge of traffic and ITS engineering design services for DOTs and public agencies. Applicants will also need to demonstrate an understanding of industry trends along with how they are impacting the future of traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems.
Major responsibilities of this position include, but not limited too:
serving in a project design production and support role under the general guidance and mentorship of experienced task leaders and project management staff. Tasks will vary and include those associated with traffic engineering projects such as traffic signal design, pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic plans; as well as ITS engineering projects such as systems engineering, planning, design, and construction phase support services. A summary of the general position responsibilities are listed as follows:
Perform a wide variety of traffic studies including operations studies, safety studies, traffic impact studies, etc. to identify and/or respond to roadway safety and traffic operations issues.
Review site plans for compliance with applicable ordinances and guidelines.
Develop various design plans based upon guidance from senior staff, client requirements and industry standards
Develop equipment specifications from research data, product information or data provided by senior staff
Compile, process and assess a variety of data to identify trends and draw conclusions that can be used to enhance operations/maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
Safely conduct field work adjacent to active roadways in compliance with AECOM safety requirements as needed to support plan development, system testing, traffic data collection, and other tasks
Communicate effectively in the form of e-mail, memoranda, reports, and presentations.
Maintain project records, organize project submittal reviews and other miscellaneous project support tasks
Participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, explain work, etc.
Remain abreast of, and incorporate where applicable, new traffic and ITS engineering technologies
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or traffic/ITS engineering; bachelor’s degree in engineering field other than civil will be considered with appropriate work experience.
2+ years of experience
State Issued Driver’s License in good standing
Current design experience, bid package development and working with standards for design projects such as traffic signals, pavement markings, signing plans, maintenance of traffic plans, ITS, and Communications
Knowledge and understanding of design development process and requirements for traffic signals, pavement markings, maintenance of traffic
Computer proficiency: Windows environment, MicroStation, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Access), Synchro, and organized file management
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technical skills in an efficient manner to complete tasks.
Capability to effectively manage multiple tasks with varying or overlapping deadlines.
Experience working in a professional engineering services office setting
Experience developing design plans in MicroStation in a team environment
Experience with MDOT bid package development process, specifications and estimating
Experience reviewing plans and drawings for roadway infrastructure and/or site developments
