Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced and highly talented ITS/Traffic Engineer for immediate employment in one of our Michigan Offices (Grand Rapids, Southfield, or Traverse City). AECOM’s network of talented professionals supports public and private transportation clients across the State of Michigan and Great Lakes area. This position will be part of a talented team of experts providing professional services across business lines including the planning, design, construction phase support, integration, operations and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), smart city solutions, connected/automated vehicle platforms, traffic signal systems, and various other advanced transportation technology systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a variety of technical tasks under the guidance of an experienced Project Manager for projects including:

  • Intelligent Transportation Systems

  • Advanced traffic signal systems

  • Transportation Operations Centers

  • Traffic Engineering Studies

  • Develop plans, specifications and estimates

  • Write technical reports and make technical presentations

  • Work closely with a technical team of ITS and traffic engineering professionals in Michigan

  • Serve as an owner’s representative for ITS projects during construction including:

  • Review of proposed equipment submittals

  • Resolution of Contractor requests for information

  • Device/Systems testing and acceptance

  • Systems engineering documentation

Projects may involve:

  • ITS device and system design

  • Active Travel Management Systems, Advanced Arterial Traffic Signal Systems

  • Systems Engineering Analyses (Concepts, Requirements, Specifications, Design, Testing and Verification)

  • Microstation, AutoCAD, Traffic Modeling, GIS modeling

  • Traffic Studies, impact analysis, and recommendations

  • Traffic signal design

  • Connected/Automated Vehicles and Applications

  • Smart City Innovations and Solutions

Minimum Requirements

Must Have Skills/Experience (Including any required Certifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field (Civil, Electrical Engineering or related field)

  • 5+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineering License is required

  • Technical/task leadership experience

  • Must have prior traffic and ITS design experience

  • Understanding of relevant federal and state policies

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Synchro / SimTraffic
