AECOM is actively seeking a creative, talented Entry Level Transportation Planner for immediate employment in our Detroit and Southfield, Michigan offices. The position will help support AECOM’s varied planning, design and research projects for transportation agencies throughout the state, including Michigan DOT, transit agencies, municipalities, and other local governments. The individual will be responsible for creatively and efficiently developing written and graphical planning products to serve the needs of our diverse set of clients.

This individual will report to AECOM’s Planning Group Manager for Michigan, and support project work for clients throughout the state. Among other places, AECOM’s Michigan Planning Group is actively working in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Flint. This group also supports AECOM’s national transportation planning practice. The qualified applicant will be a highly motivated individual with demonstrated knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, multi-modal transportation planning and analysis. Example projects include transit corridor studies, roadway design studies, pedestrian and bicycle enhancement plans, environmental analyses, transportation data collection, and policy or best-practice research.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Assist with field research, data collection, data analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation, as well as report development
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Staying current on emerging best practices in multi-modal transportation analysis and planning from around the state and country
Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation, geography, public policy, or related area of study
Demonstrated experience in multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issues
Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research and data collection
Analytic skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematical techniques in practical situation
Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the public
Presentation skills to synthesize data and research into compelling reports and graphics
Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment, including an ability to prioritize and meet task deadlines
Strong command of the written and spoken English language
Fast learner who is open to learning new concepts, specializations and software programs
Master’s degree in urban planning, transportation, geography, public policy or related area of study
1-2 years of experience in transportation planning including demonstrated work samples
AICP certification (or desire to obtain within first two years of employment)
Knowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphical software packages
Experience utilizing GIS to develop maps and conduct spatial analysis
