Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to hire a Structural Engineer based in our Seattle, WA office as part of our Pacific Region Transportation Business Line to serve as a member of the bridge and structures design team on a variety of roadway and transit design projects, including a focus on Design-Build projects. The qualified applicant will be able to organize work tasks to deliver priorities in an environment of demanding and often conflicting deadlines. They will be goal oriented and quality conscious with excellent communications skills. They will need to be versatile and adaptable to accommodate changing working times and priorities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of preliminary engineering including planning studies for bridges and walls

  • Assist in preparation of final design and plans, specifications, and estimate documents for bridges and retaining walls

  • Assist with design support during construction for structural items

  • Flexibility in working schedule to meet demanding deliverable timelines

  • Prepare quantity estimates for bridge and structural designs

  • Perform Quality Control reviews of structural designs

  • Perform interdisciplinary reviews of other discipline designs

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and shop drawings

  • Prepare reports documenting work tasks and changes encountered

  • Active participation in project team coordination meetings

  • Be available to work extended hours during construction including nights and weekends as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • WA PE or eligible within 6 months

  • Commitment to excellence and high quality of work

  • Experience in seismic analysis of bridges

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills

  • Experience developing bridge and structural plans, specifications, and estimates

  • Experience using MicroStation and structural analysis software packages

  • Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic to put in hours as required and be flexible to get things done providing proactive reporting on progress and status

  • Understanding and commitment to safety and health program management

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design-Build project experience

  • Experience delivering WSDOT design projects

  • MS in Structural Engineering

  • Soil-structure analysis and design experience

  • Experience in finite element analysis

  • Experience working in the consulting industry

  • Experience working with State DOT’s, Transit Agencies, and Municipal clients

  • Experience in construction and/or working with contractor
