Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to hire a Senior Roadway Engineer based in our Seattle, WA office as part of our Pacific Region Transportation Business Line to serve in a task leadership role on a variety of transportation design and planning projects, including a focus on Design-Build projects. The qualified applicant will be able to analyze issues and determine priorities in an environment of demanding and often conflicting deadlines. They will be customer service driven, and will have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead preliminary and detailed designs on a variety of highway and municipal roadway projects

  • Work closely with the design team in a leadership role

  • Work closely with contractor client to manage design

  • Keep projects on schedule and on budget; including managing scope changes

  • Flexibility in working schedule to meet demanding deliverable timelines

  • Motivate and inspire people working under the direct supervision, by providing high quality technical inputs to the project and the group

  • Ensure client satisfaction including being QA/QC driven

  • Proactive approach to the improvement of operating systems, teamwork, processes and policy development

  • Coordination with site contractors for field engineering services, materials testing, reviews, inspections, surveying and assistance in technical or logistical site matters

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and shop drawings

  • Personnel administration and providing assistance to field crews, as required

  • Document weekly reports; attend site meetings, review construction drawings and specifications for roadways projects, and prepare tender packages

  • Responsible to monitor and report on financial expenditure for budget control purposes, and to anticipate project cost changes

  • Liaison with design team, clients, contractors, utility company officials, and the general public as necessary

  • Be available to work extended hours during construction including nights and weekends as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Commitment to excellence and high quality of work

  • WA PE or eligible within 6 months

  • Experience delivering Design-Build projects

  • Excellent report writing, client communication, and proposal skills

  • Experience with client interaction, ensuring schedule delivery

  • Proficiency in the use of InRoads and MicroStation

  • Experience in the preparation and management of CPM Schedules and Earned Value Reporting

  • Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic to put in hours as required and be flexible to get things done with minimal supervision providing proactive reporting on progress and status

  • Understanding and commitment to safety and health program management

  • Strong organizational skills, experience of working in the consulting industry, and effective communication skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years Design-Build experience

  • Experience delivering WSDOT and/or Sound Transit design projects

  • Experience working with State DOT’s, Transit Agencies, and Municipal clients
