Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Project Engineer with 8+ years of experience that has a thorough working knowledge of aviation project development and design processes. The position is located in Seattle, WA and entails working on a variety of aviation projects throughout Pacific Northwest Region. Responsible for performing a wide array of aviation-related civil design, planning, construction support, and client management services for General Aviation, Cargo, and Commercial Service Airport clients.

Duties and responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Design of airport engineering projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, vehicle service roads, airfield lighting and signage installation, navigational aids, drainage improvements, utility relocation and protection, and pavement rehabilitation.

  • Preparation of engineering design reports, construction plans, and contract documents/technical specifications.

  • Significant design and construction oversight for multiple aviation clients.

  • Collaborating and/or coordinating design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers and technicians.

  • Coordination with clients and funding agencies.

This position will provide an entry into Project Management level responsibilities for the right candidate. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills, strong technical skills and the ability to confidently execute and coordinate technical matters related to the FAA Advisory Circulars.

Experience and responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Manages technical portions of projects achieving quality outcomes and client satisfaction.

  • Plans, schedules, manages budget, conducts, and supervises/leads the technical staff within a discipline in the design on high complexity projects, or several disciplines on projects with less complexity.

  • Acts as primary point of contact for given technical discipline which may include all technical aspects of project depending upon project complexity and candidate experience.

  • Interacts with all members of project team with responsibility of aviation lead or deputy project manager in some situations.

  • Coordinates with client and outside stakeholder contact through meetings, issue coordination/resolution.

  • Provides overall project direction to the project discipline team(s) while providing status of the project to others in the firm.

  • Devises new approaches to solve problems encountered.

  • Accountable for the development, coordination, and execution of design activities.

  • Mentors and develops technical staff, providing leadership and an environment which encourages teamwork, initiative and growth.

  • Knowledge and hands-on understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars - project development process and the various project phases.

  • AutoCAD and Civil-3D capability is highly regarded.

  • Working knowledge and ability to prepare project specifications in FAA format is preferred.

  • Washington professional engineer registration is required.

  • Excellent verbal and writing skills (ability to write clear and concise emails, letters, reports, proposals and meeting notes) are essential to position.

It is expected that successful candidates will transition into project management roles and assist in business development and proposal activities as they grow in this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering

  • Professional engineer (PE) license required (Washington State license preferred)

  • Knowledge and hands-on understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars project development process and the various project phases including the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimate

  • Excellent verbal and writing skills (ability to write clear and concise emails, letters, reports, proposals and meeting notes) are essential to position.
