AECOM Electrical Engineer in Savannah, Georgia

Job Summary

AECOM is hiring an Electrical Engineer supporting the Georgia Port Authority, one of the largest fastest growing ports. The position will reside at the AECOM Savannah office. As an Electrical Engineer - Ports & Marine Terminals, you may be involved investigation, planning, analysis, design, technical production, and field oversight of many different types of projects including crane electrical and communication systems, complex marine terminals, container gate, container yards, intermodal rail, utilities, and other port/marine related engineering projects. With an emphasis on medium and low voltage design, you will work on projects from the planning through design and construction phases. This role is client facing, requiring communication with the client’s and power company’s technical staff.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

Comprehensive understanding of Electrical discipline and basic understanding of other disciplines.

  • Prepares electrical drawings such as one-line diagrams, grounding and lighting plans, grounding and lighting details, electrical installation details, schematics, and wiring diagrams as well as electrical lists such as equipment lists, load lists and cable schedules

  • Prepares specifications, data sheets, quotation requests, and technical bid summaries for electrical equipment.

  • Performs electrical equipment and cable sizing calculations

  • Performs power system studies and analysis such as load flow, short circuit, breaker and relay coordination and arc flash and produces associated written reports utilizing the ETAP software

  • Designs and specifies components for electrical distribution and utilization systems

  • Reviews vendor drawings and provides comments as necessary

  • Responsible for engineering and design activities including working directly with other engineers and design drafters to produce engineering documents and designs for various industry related facilities

  • Assists in the coordination between engineering disciplines, participating in project planning activities, and supports cost and schedule updates

  • Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks

  • Keeps proper engineering files and records

  • Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training

  • Under minimal direction, completes engineering assignments of moderate complexity

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related electrical engineer experience and/or education

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Current holder of, or have no restrictions to obtain, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • P.E. License in the state of Georgia, or ability to receive within 6 months

  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in industrial systems and communication systems

  • Knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, PIP, and other applicable industry standards

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical software

  • Knowledge of ETAP modeling software

  • Knowledge of Georgia Power standards and experience working with Georgia Power

  • Engineering experience in medium voltage crane electrical systems

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products

  • Strong communication skills in coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, and regulatory agencies.

  • Field experience providing construction administration services
