AECOM Superintendent, Piping - Future opportunity in Sarnia, Ontario

Job Summary

TAMS (an AECOM Company) is looking for a Superintendent, Piping to join our team in Sarnia, ON location. This is a Full-Time position on a 5 day on 2 day off schedule.

This is a future job opportunity with an anticipated start date in summer months.

The Superintendent is responsible for the preparation and execution of maintenance work in accordance with Business Unit requirements and standards including liaising with client personnel and the appropriate Planner's. The role supports the Site Manager in delivering the maintenance services & break in work support to the respective Business Units.

  • Ensures that all maintenance activities are carried out in a safe, effective manner through adherence to all Workplace Health & Safety regulations all Client and AECOM procedures, policies, standards and controls.

  • Ensures that all staff and workforce are fully knowledgeable of Client and AECOM Health, safety, Environmental and Security policies and procedures and that all efforts are exercised to meet or exceed safety goals.

  • Works with the workforce to ensure their active participation in and alignment with Client’s safety programs and systems.

  • Ensures the continued success of maintenance activities by actively identifying, investigating and eliminating the root cause of all actual and potential loss events.

  • Contributes to improving safety and productivity by recommending and implementing changes to procedures, standards, rules and work practices. Proactively identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions.

  • Primary maintenance responsibilities include HSSE and Quality program compliance, attainment of maintenance milestones, resource management, interface with Supply Chain Management and workforce administration systems.

  • Cost effective utilization of workforce and equipment, including balancing work and resource leveling, will be a priority.

  • Monitors maintenance progress, quality control, and scheduling.

  • Provides updates to the schedule and plans

  • Ensures consistent use of an effective and timely trend system to capture any and all cost, quality or schedule deviations as formalized trends from the approved cost and schedule. Deviations will be brought to the attention of the appropriate Manager within 24 hours of their occurrence

  • Ensures the Project Team provides all planning input, systems, procedures, and resources necessary to support the integration of essential project work into the execution schedule for plant and unit turnarounds in an effective, timely and cost efficient manner

  • Ensures Client and AECOM KPI for all maintenance activities are understood and complied with.

  • Interfaces with Supply Chain Management to support material procurement and contract administration activities as required.

  • Ensures all necessary material and equipment has been procured and is available for use.

  • Compiles and completes various reports to Manager as required. Key reporting will include critical project parameters such as safety issues, labour issues, progress, trends, maintenance activities, man hours, and quality issues

  • Assist in the development of skilled and knowledgeable employees by recommending and providing training for employees, then evaluating the results of the received training.

  • Manages and maintains an effective labour relations plan to ensure that all maintenance activities proceed without significant disruption to maintenance or plant operations

  • Supports a productive human resource environment through leadership and by ensuring proper administration of all AECOM HR procedures and fostering open, two-way communications

  • Ensure all progressive discipline processes are maintain and executed according to AECOM policy

  • Ensures all maintenance conforms to the approved IFC plans and specifications and that all work is conducted in accordance with permit procedure requirements

  • Ensures all necessary QC inspections of field installations are performed to ensure maintenance compliance to all applicable codes and standards including any Client and AECOM specific practices or identified requirements

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check which may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, and/or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar maintenance position.

  • Experience in piping/pipefitting trade.

  • Supervisory position experience and a familiarity with the maintenance and oilfield work practices.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of contractor and procurement principles, practice and legislation.

  • Strong negotiation skills, communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Team Player to deliver desire outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman ticket / Red seal / Blue seal certification would be an asset.

  • PMP designation would be an asset.

  • MMP designation would be an asset.

  • Formal supervisory or management training/certification is an asset.

  • Experience in heavy industrial construction and/or engineering industry is an asset.

  • Knowledge and experience of both Planning and Estimating is preferred.
