The Engineer’s Representative for Landside Works leads the construction supervision (CS) team administering one or more construction contracts for various Works including buildings, wet services, electrical systems, power station, heavy duty pavements and lighting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Engineer’s Representative for Landside Works is responsible for:

  • Actively addressing issues as raised by the project team by providing guidance or resolution either personally or through delegation to the CS team members.

  • Mentoring and developing a team of CS professionals.

  • Chairing progress meetings with contractors

  • Administering multiple FIDIC Red Book and Yellow Book construction contracts as the representative of The Engineer with particular attention to HSE, quality, project progress, progress payments and changes.

  • Advising senior management of the status of project progress, decisions and changes.

  • Coordinating project needs and service delivery with other discipline leads: project controls, commercial/contracts, HSE and quality.

  • Coordinating project needs and service delivery with PMC staff who are managing other projects including the construction of marine works.

  • Supporting the implementation of the Quality Management System.

  • Supporting preparation of periodic (weekly, monthly) and ad hoc reports and project metrics.

  • Collaborating with the project controls and commercial teams in assessing impacts of proposed changes of scope, schedule and cost.

  • Participating in project/program risk assessment activities and reviewing a project-level risk register.

  • Contributing to the development of tender and contract documents for interfacing works.

  • Collaborating with the Design Manager in the review of the design consultant’s design of the works.

  • Obtaining support from the Quality Manager in implementing the quality assurance procedures

  • Collaborating with the Project Controls staff in assessing progress against programme and earned value.

  • Managing the CS staff including the planning, hiring, developing, mentoring, leading and staff retention

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction site environment

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position overseeing CS staff and other personnel on major infrastructure programme during construction phase

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in civil infrastructure industry

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the employ of an engineering consulting firm

Specific skills required:

  • This position requires sound problem resolution, judgment, decision-making, troubleshooting skills and the ability to advocate and direct the implementation of project management systems.

  • Leadership and negotiation skills to resolve project related issues

Personal Specification:

  • Team leader / decision maker – ability to identify skill gaps in team members and implement appropriate development

  • Focused on client delivery – attention to detail and quality with a capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Empathy towards staff and colleagues – collaborative management style

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

  • Member of professional organisation.
