The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Practice in the West (ENV West) is seeking a motivated and technically qualified Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) for immediate employment. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental health with knowledge of local, State, and Federal regulations. Depending on personal geography, the successful candidate may report to any one of the following offices: Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, or Sacramento.
The Environmental West EHS Practice has numerous ongoing projects providing technical and management support to industrial and government clients. Currently, our Practice has 80 staff members and is looking to expand further with the immediate addition of a CIH.
The ideal candidate will be internally and externally visible as an industrial hygiene expert that provides strategic guidance and quality control review of technical documents, keeping up to date on regulatory developments, marketing to AECOM key clients, identifying new clients and IH opportunities, execute strategies to achieve growth in the EHS practice, collaborate with other AECOM staff to execute work and improve client relationships, and senior leadership of projects involving industrial hygiene and occupational health.
The candidate will successfully manage projects while meeting cost, schedule, safety, and quality objectives.
The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with clients, project team members, and AECOM account managers and market sector leaders and will support the professional development and growth of California industrial hygiene
Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or other relevant discipline with a minimum 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Must have experience performing, managing and developing environmental, health and safety compliance programs, monitoring and auditing programs in industrial/manufacturing settings.
Must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Must have high level experience working with federal, state and local environmental and safety rules and regulations. Ability to solve complex regulatory and enforcement issues.
Past history of successful business development in the San Francisco Bay Area with industrial, public, and/or federal clients; existing local client relationships.
Experience directing, managing and coordinating technical tasks in a team environment to prepare permit applications, writing reports, documenting technical analyses, communicating with clients, and managing budgets
Candidate must have the ability to climb ladders, carry up to 25 pounds, wear a respirator, and wear appropriate PPE required for work in the field.
Ability to travel.
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
Implementation of policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with health and safety requirements.
Providing technical leadership and functional guidance to ensure regulatory standards are being enforced.
Serves as integral member of AECOM business development network and will assist with and lead new pursuits with both existing and new clients.
Serves in a liaison capacity with agencies engaged in promoting health and safety activities.
Ensuring that quality control procedures are executed to monitor all aspects of regulations.
Drafting reports to federal, state and local agencies.
Coordinating audits of health and safety programs for internal AECOM teams and for clients.
Assisting in the development and conducts basic health, safety and environment (HSE) training.
Communicating programs to enhance employee awareness of prevention and compliance.
Administration of a HSE program on specialized projects or multiple projects.
Supervising personnel engaged in monitoring and preventing hazards and diseases that could be present throughout work sites.
Planning, implementing, and completing health and safety investigations and sampling programs including managing field teams.
Managing health and safety projects, prepare project work plan, budget, and project report preparation.
Mentoring, supervising, and motivating AECOM colleagues.
Demonstrated leadership and successful management of multiple professional staff.
Proficient use of PC- based applications (MS Word and Excel) and good typing skills are required.
Strong organizational and time management skills, strong written and verbal communication (presentations and public speaking) and interpersonal skills, and strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
Strong attention to detail.
Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables
Completion of AECOM Project Manager Certification within 6 months of hire.
Some experience in the Northern Pacific Coast Region (Oregon, Washington and Alaska).
