Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced and talented Technical Architect to join our Buildings + Places (B+P) business line with focused experience in science and technology, healthcare and workplace .

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in science and technology / laboratory design for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, biomedical, or other research institutions. Relevant experience also needed in healthcare design and workplace design. This position is to be based in San Francisco and is part of our Interiors Group.

Responsibilities and requirements for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Work directly with AECOM laboratory planners, clients, scientists, researchers, and related end-users to develop laboratory design strategies at all levels of detail including new construction and renovations

  • Work with AECOM healthcare planners, client, and related end-users to develop healthcare design strategies at all levels of detail including new construction and renovations

  • Offer and support laboratory and healthcare technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals and understands their impact on cost, construction, sustainability, and other factors

  • Develop and oversee architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details, etc.) and specifications for laboratory space documentation and construction

  • Direct document production in accordance with identified project specific checklists, AECOM standards, and QA/QC standard program

  • Provide or follow verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations, and details appropriately

  • Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards

  • Oversee the construction administration of the laboratory spaces and associated systems

  • Lead periodic project design meetings and presentations; ensure client is adequately briefed on project progress

  • Promote firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams across multiple AECOM offices

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in architecture or related field + 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • Licensed as a Registered Architect

  • Ideally experienced in the lab design, healthcare and workplace role in an architectural design firm

  • Experienced in programming, planning of laboratory / healthcare, research and development and high-technology facilities.

  • Strong Lab Design, Revit and production skills

  • Science & Technology experience essential

  • Healthcare experience essential

  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems

  • Related laboratory and healthcare architectural design experience

  • Working knowledge and skill set to guide discussions for laboratory room/space development in conjunction with equipment and other technical attributes

  • Ability to work with end users to develop process flows, planning process and critical adjacency of research and laboratory rooms for optimum efficiency and flexibility

  • Leadership experience, including managing client expectations, multi-disciplinary team, and meeting scope/schedule/budget

  • Advanced knowledge of the architectural planning and design process, construction documentation, construction administration and code requirements

Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $115,000.
