AECOM Systems Resident Engineer in San Francisco, California

Job Summary

AECOM is actively searching for a Systems Resident Engineer for immediate employment in San Francisco.

The Resident Engineer (RE) is responsible for the day-to-day management of field construction and assuring that the contract (Work Package) is completed with safety, quality and minimum disruption to the businesses, pedestrians and traffic, in accordance with the contract documents and as scheduled. The RE shall report to the Construction Manager (CM). The RE is assisted on an as-needed basis by Office/Field Engineers, Inspectors, Quality Assurance staff, and surveying, testing, safety, environmental and special inspection services. REs are responsible for the supervision and quality of the work of assigned staff, and assuring the quality of contractor activities.

The duties and responsibilities of the Systems Resident Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prime contact person with the contractor and liaison between the contractor and Owner, other City agencies, and the public for coordination of contract work, and investigation, and resolution of complaints.

  • The RE is the “Engineer” as used in the contract documents. Manages, answers (whenever possible) and approves responses to Requests for Information (RFI’s). Manages, reviews (whenever possible) and approves submittals.

  • Leads and supervises Engineers and Inspectors assigned onsite to manage contract activities. Assures that all required tests, operations, measurements and inspections are satisfactorily completed and documented.

  • Monitors the construction quality control, safety, security, traffic and pedestrian routing & facilities, clean-up, and compliance with contract requirements. Initiates corrective actions to resolve issues.

  • Prepares contract payment and modification documents.

  • Issues all changes to the contract, determines schedule impacts, and estimates the cost of changed work. Negotiates, recommends and approves contract changes within his/her authority.

  • Ensures that reports and other field documents required to manage the contract are completed, filed and maintained in the proper manner.

  • Monitors and reviews contractor’s schedule and assists the contractor to re-sequence or revise work to mitigate delays and damages. Actively pursues the resolution of field disputes. Keeps the CM informed of field changes, disputes, problems, delays and overruns.

  • Reports on performance, quality, staffing and other matters to the CM.

  • Investigates and assists Public Outreach with public complaints.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience preferred

  • Familiar with transit systems
