Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an I-level Planning Structural Engineer to work in Code 962 at SWRMC. The position is located at SWRMC in San Diego, CA.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Provide services to write technical work documents, MPs, FWPs, and CWPs in support of I-level maintenance for SWRMC planning department.

  • Represent the SWRMC Production Department as the initial point of contact for development of specifications in his or her assigned area of discipline and respond to technical questions pertaining to all matters associated with that discipline.

  • Possess an overall understanding of modifying and repairing a variety of shipboard systems and their components.

  • Perform shipboard inspections, review technical data, and provide labor and material estimates.

  • Write and review I-level JFFM Vol. VII, Chapter 4, Appendix E (a.k. a. 4E) specifications for inspections and assessments of material condition.

  • Conduct ship checks and assess whether jobs can be performed or have been performed correctly. If a job cannot be performed, the contractor will advise whether to cancel/return the job.

  • Access the Production Department’s CAM equipment for awareness of Production Shop capabilities.

  • Effectively communicate with Ship Superintendents, Production personnel, and Quality Assurance personnel.

  • Attend planning/production and lean event meetings upon Planning Officer’s request.

  • Determine what type of specifications will be written: MP, FWP, or CWP.

  • Submit completed work packages in a timely manner.

  • Pass his or her oral board IAW NAVEDTRA 43523-B, and obtain and maintain planner qualification IAW SWRMCINST 4790.9A

Minimum Requirements

  • At least seven (7) years of technical experience with Navy systems; or three (3) years experience with Bachelors Degree in Engineering.

  • Experience must be related to structural analysis, maintenance, repair, design, and/or assessments (such as prior Navy Hull technician).

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

  • Position may require travel.

  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

  • Current work at SWRMC preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate has experience providing engineering services to U.S. Navy or in shipyards.

  • Experience with modern Navy Ship systems a plus.
