Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Program Manager, Federal Environmental Practice, for immediate employment for the San Diego, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.The job will involve the management of environmental investigation and remediation services projects for both public and private clients and leading pursuit of new work opportunities. The project manager role will involve client, personnel, and financial management, proposal preparation, scheduling, report preparation, and billing/collection support. This position will also involve business development through expansion of existing client opportunities and identification and pursuit of new clients. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, and have excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills, and be highly client service focused. Candidate should have experience in compliance with federal and State of California environmental restoration regulatory requirements.


  • Plans, organizes and coordinates work on multiple projects.

  • Manages communications with client and project team.

  • Effectively manages health and safety, scope, cost, schedule, and quality of work.

  • Mentors staff, providing leadership in an environment which encourages teamwork, initiative and growth.

  • Maintains knowledge of new regulatory and technical developments to provide the most cost-effective solutions to client needs.

  • Ensures that project team is responsive to client.

  • Assists client with agency negotiations by providing technical resources, and supports client's regulatory compliance efforts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydreogeology, engineering or related science

  • 10+ years of professional consulting experience including 7+ years of practical project management and environmental consulting experience

  • Professional Registration a must (PG or PE)

  • Experience pursuing and executing fixed price and cost reimbursable remediation projects, primarily for the Navy but also for other DoD and Federal agency clients

  • Experience working with RCRA/CERCLA regulations

  • OSHA 40-hour, and 8-Hr Supervisor Training

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well in a project team and a fast paced environment

  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects

  • Eagerness to acquire new skills and meet new challenges

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree a plus

  • Demonstration of experience in the following areas is a plus: DOD sites; EPA environmental regulations; remedial investigations, in-situ groundwater investigations and remediation; and subcontractor management
