AECOM Infrastructure Economist in San Diego, California
AECOM is seeking a Infrastructure Economist based in Arlington, Virginia office.
AECOM’s Infrastructure Economics group is a multidisciplinary team with staff located across the U.S. We work closely with engineering and planning disciplines to conduct applied economic analyses to support project development, policy, and investment decision making.
We apply our national experience and leadership in partnership with AECOM’s regional expertise to solve clients’ problems and support their work.
We would like to add economists to the group to assist with planning and engineering projects across the country. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of economics and its relationship to the development, operation and management of infrastructure assets and networks.
Typical projects will include planning for transportation and water projects, financial and economic analysis, socioeconomic assessments, regional economic assessments, benefit-cost analysis, capital program development, policy and technology analysis, environmental and sustainability evaluations, tax and revenue assessments, and others
S/he will handle assignments of a quantitative and qualitative nature; and communicate effectively with project staff and/or clients
Working with clients and team members, the economist will create and apply economic and simulation models
S/he will build, manage, and analyze large data sets based on proprietary client data and traditional public sources
Written communication is an important part of our work
With three to five years of experience, the economist will perform routine tasks independently, and work under the general supervision of project managers on more complex assignments
The economist will frequently prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and client briefings
Candidates will be expected to develop project management skills over time
There will be opportunities to assist with business development activities
Occasional travel is required

BA/BS in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Regional/Urban Planning, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Quantitative planning and data analysis methods experience
Experience appling economic understanding/skills to a broad range of project types
Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
A Master’s degree in a field that provides a strong foundation for quantitative analysis, such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering
Two (2) years of applicable experience
Experience with multiple types of infrastructure (transportation, water, etc.)
Proficient using geographic information system (GIS) software
Understands econometrics and ability to use software (e.g., SPSS, R)
Understands regional input/output modeling and experience with software (e.g., IMPLAN, REMI, TREDIS)
Experience with tools related to multiple fields of infrastructure economic
Produces and delivers exceptional quality work that is thoughtful, thorough, and polished
Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
Strong organizational skills
Strong verbal and writing skills
Ability to solve problems creatively
